Cheney Endorses Palin, Liked Her Speech
NY Times ^ | 9/8/08 | Steve Meyers

ROME – Vice President Dick Cheney, not surprisingly, endorsed Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican candidate to replace him, but the man who reshaped the office as much as other vice president in history suggested she would not necessarily replicate the role he has played under President Bush.

“Each administration is different,” he said, speaking to reporters on Monday on the sun-dappled patio of the ambassador’s residence here. “And there’s no reason why Sarah Palin can’t be a successful vice president in a McCain administration.”

Mr. Cheney’s remarks represented his first on Senator McCain’s choice as a running mate and offered insight into his own legacy in office. Put simply, the world’s not likely to see a vice presidency quite like his.

“It won’t look exactly like the Bush administration or the first Bush administration, the Ford administration,” he said. “It’ll be relatively unique to this president and this time that they’re in office.”

Even as Republicans gathered for their convention, Mr. Cheney travelled to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and, now, Italy to rally international pressure on Russia over its war against Georgia. He brought to the trip a reservoir of experiences as an energy executive, a defense official and a hawkish skeptic of Russia that predated his two terms as vice president.

The left sees this as troublesome. Whereas in reality, it simply is one more affirmation to the conservative base. Welcome and appreciated.

Palin is Cheney, she’s just a better shot.

Hopefully she won't just be a fixture for state funerals under a RINO administration.

I believe that Cheney may turn out to be somewhat of an unsung hero for his actions over the last eight years. It’s my take that he will not get the credit he is due for his help during that difficult time.

That’s not intended to be a slam on anyone. I’m just glad he was the vice-president at that point in time.

I’m shocked that Dick Cheney endorses Sarah Palin for VP. I never saw this one coming.....

Seriously, is this what passes for news in the MSM nowadays?

Or perhaps more accurately, she may have folks who are more savvy as it relates to proper etiquette in the field.

I can see the Drive Bys saying this is like Darth Vader giving his blessing to the ticket.

I suspect she's more knowledgeable about cold-weather attire.

You and me both. I'm sorry he didn't run for POTUS, but it's understandable. He's spent a lot of time in Washington, and wants to go fishing.

Well since they get their talking points from Daily KOS, DU, and BowelMovement.com, you’re probably right.

Plus a whole lot nicer to look at, and no worry that she's going to be carried away in a stretcher.

So what. Ludicris and ninety nine percent of other hip hoppers and rappers are for Obama. Great “artists”, eh? These low life scum call our mothers, sisters and daughters “bitches and hoes” and we’re supposed to be concerned with Chaney’s endorement. Being for Obama, you’d think they’d be tolerant and understanding. Scum of the earth and they make millions. Go figure.

He looks somewhat out of place with this grayish coat.

I think you’ve got a point there. ;-)

Agreed. Emphasis on "unsung," since the media types and lib professor types think more of Darth Vader, and will lambast him until their dying days.

Cheney has been a hero, and I hope that we someday find out about how he held of the Condi Rice-type RINOs from messing up our foreign policy. I really wish that HE had been POTUS over the last 7 1/2 years, with Bush as Veep. Of course, then we wouldn't be treated to Sarah Palin's career getting a major boost, so maybe it balances off.

Little-known fact about Sarah Palin, #472: Sarah was recently seen measuring the drapes in Dick Cheney’s office.
