LAURA INGRAHAM SHOW - Sarah Palin sacrificing family to advance her career?
Laura Ingraham show phone call ^ | 9-8-08 | dfu

Posted on 09/08/2008 10:12:47 AM PDT by doug from upland

Laura Ingraham was discussing the comments of Sally Quinn of Washington Post fame. She is the queen of the Washington elite.

Sally, as have others, has been criticizing Sarah Palin for putting her career ahead of her family. Oh, what happened to women's lib, Sally?

I was able to get through to Laura's show, and she put me on right away. Yes, Sarah's family is going to be put second. But not to her career ----- to the country.

As soldiers and the families of soldiers do every day, Sarah and her family are going to make a substantial sacrifice for their country. Yes, it is going to be tough on them. It is tough on all of those who actually make sacrificies in the defense of this great nation. Sally Quinn and her elitist leftist pals will never understand that.

For the typical women, it’s a different story. Palin has been called, this is not a typical situation.

Absolutely is oh so typical.

I would guess that at least 3/4 of the Christian women I know juggle both home and career. They do it with the support and love of their families and the community. This is more easily accomplished in a small town. Dr. Laura is old school metro-mindset and out of touch. The only women who solely stay at home anymore are over the age of 60.

I know one young woman who stays at home and watches soap operas all day but she has multiple sclerosis. There are a few career teachers who stay at home to home school but they volunteer without pay in various organizations until they return to work.

“Yes, Sarah’s family is going to be put second.”

I’m not so sure about that.

Todd Palin strikes me as someone who can fill-in on the parental front.

Sounds like Sally Quinn is a bitter old lesbian.

I understand. I wonder if the whole family is moving to DC. Or, will she commute? They are not going to get as much of mom’s times as they are used to having.

I’m in California, and I am a total stay at home mom. I have lots of friends who do not work.

Our kids are getting older now, so some of my friends are starting to go to work now.

We all had good careers before we had kids (engineers, nurses, speech therapist, real estate).

My career does not do well with working part-time. I worked as a software engineer at a defense company in the Silicon Valley. Most software jobs out here are 60 hours a week kind of jobs.

My friends that have degrees in nursing and teaching have had an easier time going back to work when their kids are older. The nurses have been able to take part-time work, or work at different hours.

I will encourage my daughters to find jobs where they can work part-time when they have kids. One of my daughters is interested in accounting, and I think that may be a good job for a mom.

GREAT and Good for you, Doug from Upland. I guess I was a "conservative feminist" in that I told my daughter not to marry until she had her college degree (something I didn't get until I was divorced and living in poverty). She has a great career, marriage, two great children, and like Gov. Palin "has it all." It can be done.

Some women see an "either/or" situation with family and career and the rest see it as a "both/and" situation. I think deep down, these women who say they put marriage and or family on the 'back burner' and pursued their careers first are not being honest with themselves. There may be a totally valid reason that they don't wish to get married or to have children. They should not project this reason onto their jobs. But then, typically, they would want to be the "victims" of the big bad capitalistic system.

Palin in 2008, 2013, 2016 . . . Sarah Power!

“I understand. I wonder if the whole family is moving to DC. Or, will she commute? They are not going to get as much of mom’s times as they are used to having.”

I’m not aware of a Vice President not residing at the Naval Observatory since it became the Official Veep residence.
Total speculation on my part, but I would imagine Piper and Willow would attend school in DC.

I also would speculate that the nebulous nature of the job of Vice President makes it more flexible when it comes to balancing scheduling issues.

Both Al Gore and Dan Quayle had minor children during their tenure and that seemed to work(Al Gore III notwithstanding).

In other words, from what I am reading, in small towns, the family is more likely to help out? Correct me if that’s not right. I was saying Sarah’s situation is not typical because she is literally being called to help rescue her country. I don’t think being materialistic is a good of enough of a reason to have day-care raise young children. Christian or not, it doesn’t change my opinion. There isn’t one set of standards for those who claim christianity. The truth is the truth. If a parent uses day care in the pursuit of getting more stuff, that’s selfish. The parents feel guilty and so they over-compensate by spoiling their children. It’s destrying the children who are given way too much material goods yet being pawned off on day-care. It’s a rather cold way to raise children, don’t you think?

There are as many variations in the lives of Christian women as there are with any other group across the country. But the left believes their rigid stereotypes because it fits their agenda of hate. Divide and conqueror, spread hate and then divide and conquer some more....but I guess they never counted on the strength of the American family to adapt.

I do know that the Bible does not condemn working women. The Proverbs woman is a great example of a woman doing lots of things outside of the home. She just always puts her family first.

With the way the culture is now there are so many ways for women to participate...and we must. For me it wouldn't be for material gain, for some it might and I am not one to judge if a family needs to have both parents working.

I guess what I am saying is that women are tired of "society" always telling us what to do. That is between ourselves, our spouse and God. Everyone else can stay out of it. We all have different situations. I've never been one to follow a collective.... and the femi-nazis are part of a collective...whether they want to admit it or not.

If you haven't taken the time to check out the Vice President's quarters at the National Observatory Grounds, Lynne Cheney's video is very revealing. There is one huge room that has nearly nothing in it that will be a great play room. And the Staircase will be outstanding for Willow to walk down in evening dress. And perhaps Bristol and Levi can get married there. The house is large enough for the family and I doubt Todd Palin will mind being a Mr. Mom.

You may be right.

Ultimately, you believe she lost her self-control with her rant. I agree with that.

I know. My guess is that they are all heading to DC. Will the VP salary be enough on which to live? Will Todd need a job? How will the kids handle being uprooted and put into the fishbowl? Yes, she and her family are sacrificing for this country.

You have a good point, you wouldn’t believe the amount of hell my sister raised with me for daring to think about working one day a week. Some people get carried away telling others what do to when they can’t even manage their own lives.

“I know. My guess is that they are all heading to DC. Will the VP salary be enough on which to live? Will Todd need a job? How will the kids handle being uprooted and put into the fishbowl? Yes, she and her family are sacrificing for this country.”

Veep salary is $215,700 versus Governor of Alaska Salary $125,000

—plus $90,000 for official entertainment expenses (non-taxable)
—Air Force Two
—Vice Pres. Residence

I don’t think money will be an issue. Nor will Todd HAVE to get a job.

I think the worst part of the “fishbowl” will be the next 57 days.

I totally agree that the family is making a sacrifice, but there will also be benefits.
