On Friday, the Diageo/Hotline Daily Tracker Poll, conducted by FD, showed Barack Obama leading John McCain 46%-40%, with 10% undecided. Today’s poll is the first Diageo/Hotline Daily Tracker Poll conducted entirely after the GOP convention (in particular, Sarah Palin’s and John McCain’s speeches). And, the results show that the GOP convention has significantly helped McCain, who has bounced back from a deficit against Obama in the wake of the Democratic National Convention to make the race dead even.

I seem to recall them having some of the biggest leads for Obama, so take with a grain of salt. The fact that the president and VP favorable/unfavorable numbers are almost identical between Rep-Dem candidates is cause for suspicion.

Methodology includes random calls to registered voters. Sample size apparently in excess of 900.

It's one of the polls used to make up the Real Clear Politics score. It was the last major one to show McCain-Palin behind.

Diageo? Isn’t that the alcoholic beverage outfit based in London? That’s the only other place I’ve heard this name?

“Hick!”

Party split appears to be (Question 16):
Repub: 34%
Dem: 42%
Indep: 20%

Percents include independents that lean one way so indep % may look small. Repub includes 8% indeps and Dem includes 7% indep.

Hotline uses a sample of +8 Democrat and has usually been considered a left wing poll. The fact that McCain has tied here and never had any lead in many months of this poll is impressive.

RCP is also still using a CNN poll during the DNC convention.

Not familiar with this poll.

Well, if this poll is run by Diageo, the Mega-distiller based in
the UK...
I hope it was done stone-cold sober.
And if it shows that Obama is most likely to lose Election ‘08...
I’ll be opening some sort of Diageo product.
AFTER the election in November!!!

BOOZE GIANT CUTS GROWTH TARGET
http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news/business/story.html?id=b881ecb3-6c01-48ff-a05f-86689a854990

LONDON - Diageo PLC, the No. 1 alcoholic drinks group, met forecasts on
Thursday with an 11-per-cent increase in annual earnings, but cut
its profit-growth target due to an economic slowdown and rising
input costs.

The London-based maker of Johnnie Walker whisky, Smirnoff vodka and
Guinness beer reported earnings per share equivalent to $1.16 Cdn
for the year to June 30, compared with a consensus of $1.17 Cdn in
a Reuters poll.

But the group, which also makes Captain Morgan rum, Baileys liqueur
and Gordon’s gin, said weakening economies in Europe prompted
it to cut its target for operating profit growth for the year to
June 2009 to seven to nine per cent, down from a solid nine per cent.

LOL. I have followed polls for 10 years and never ONCE seen this poll quoted . . . until it’s the only one not showing a large McCain lead.
