EP News--- Family Research Council Tony Perkins said, Its obviously an outstanding choice. Very smart. Very strategic. Those who might have voted for Obama only because they wanted to be a part of something historic can now vote for the Republicans for the same reason.
Richard Viguerie, the conservative icon who has been brutally critical of McCain, was even more effusive, Shes perfect.
Setting aside the doctrine of original sin for a moment, religious conservatives do think the selection of Sarah Palin as the vice presidential candidate is pretty near perfect. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Conventions Ethics and Religious Liberties Commission, was not the only person to observe that she was straight out of veep central casting. Shes active in an evangelical church. She has five children, including one with Downs Syndrome that she chose to give birth to even though she knew the child would be a Downs baby. And, of course, shes a woman.
Even Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family, who made national headlines when he said he could not support McCain under any circumstances admitted that this was a circumstance that he did not think was possible. Sources close to Dobson told EP News that in a private meeting on the afternoon of the Palin announcement he said he would reconsider his position on McCain.
Dobson called Palin a genuine reformer. A deeply committed Christian. On a special Focus Action radio broadcast, Dobson said Palin has helped change his mind on McCain.
If I went into the polling booth today, I would pull the lever for John McCain, he said. Dobson applauded the Republican Partys strong platform plank against destructive embryonic stem-cell research, which uses much stronger language than in years past...

The statement by Dr. Dobson that he WOULD pull the lever for McCain is something that I never thought I would hear..And one which removes him from his considered place of honor for many who had revered him as an elder in the Pro-Life and Christian camps.
While many in the secular community had criticized him previously, this decision is the one which will do him damage, and I would urge him to recant with all due haste.

I don't agree with McCain that love of country comes first. No! Love of God comes first and if we do not obey God in all things, we will cease to be both great and free!

It would be sad if the conservative movement sold its principles and gave up its soul to win an election. Winning an election is nice as long as we do not forget the principles in sight of us. Without them, a victory in November would be an empty victory. No seat we would gain in the councils of power would be worth it if we paid that price.

We've got hard work to do to hold McCain accountable on the values that define us: respect for God, the defense of marriage and family, upholding the culture of life and restoring our national sovereignty and securing our borders. We must insist a McCain Administration pursue policies that affirm the above principles and if it doesn't, make it pay the price at the next election. Conservatism is about homage to our Founding Principles not about securing the political spoils of government. As long as we get it right and make sure our leaders honor our values as opposed to merely giving them lip service, we will be successful in changing America for the better. That is the spirit of the true American maverick.

I was decrying Dobson and a NARbot friend of his Lou Engle for contemplating Romney over McCain up until the night before the Palin pick to my Christian friends.
And not to parse words, but Palin is not an “Evangelical” in the strict sense of the word. She is a down to earth Charismatic. Big Diff. And for charismatics, this is the most surprising and refreshing thing.
But if you could see some of the freakshows that go on at Charismatic Churches, churches that Palin’s mostly stalwart Assembly of God church has traditionally stood against — you would quickly run away screaming. Especially after this year’s problem at Lakeland with Todd Bentley.
In other words, I pray that Palin is not ever considering going on the GOD TV or TBN circuits. Please God spare her. This would be an unmitigated disaster.

hold McCain accountable on the values that define us: respect for God, the defense of marriage and family, upholding the culture of life and restoring our national sovereignty and securing our borders. Well, there sure ain't too many doing that right now. Quite the contrary. McCain is being rewarded for years of holding all of that in the utmost contempt. And conservative "leaders" are giving up the last vestiges of their integrity to do so. They have both feet on the slippery slope, and don't yet realize how hard those rocks at the bottom of the cliff are going to be for them.

Without them, a victory in November would be an empty victory. No seat we would gain in the councils of power would be worth it if we paid that price. But, that is precisely what is happening. Just as it did with Bush, Conservatives remain divided, and therefore, conquered. Until we will protect all three pillars of Conservatism, there will continue to be *no* Conservatism. It is the heart and power of Reagan Conservatism, and those that settle for less always get nothing.
Silly Republicanism, run amok. It would be funny, if it were not so damnably dangerous.

I disagree with you.. I am sure Dr. Dobson understands as I do, that it would have been very hard to vote for him (against Obama) no matter what he did.. I was just as surprised as everyone else that Sarah Palin actually agreed to be on the ticket with him.... bottom line is that with Palin on the ticket it is a bit easier to vote for her knowing that we get McCain too..... Pulling the lever for McCain will be painful, but see Sarah Palin on the ballot with him eases the pain a bit.

Its human nature... there's the hope McCain won't be a second Bush and maybe conservative values will be restored to the federal government. Its like the Tale Of Tantalus... every time conservatives think they get their dreams fulfilled, its rudely snatched away from them. Politics as it is in this world bears more than a decided resemblance to the world's oldest profession and there are very few incorruptible people in it. The modern career politician is after all, more interested in power than the common good.

Re: your tagline.
Sounds fine until you consider that McCain has ALL the power in that deal, and Palin has NONE. Zero. Nada. Zilch.

As long as we really know what we're getting. If we're going to have a seat at the table, let's make sure we are truly heard!

I am sure Dr. Dobson understands as I do, that it would have been very hard to vote for him (against Obama) no matter what he did..Absolutely and incredibly WRONG. Dobson stood against him on moral grounds, and those moral grounds have not changed at all. His position is no longer absolute, as it should be, and now stands as a beacon of moral relativism, which is anathema.
One is to oppose evil, period.

Alright. Is the only thing in it for a politician who is a social conservative is just the opportunity to be in Washington? I wonder if Sarah would really like giving up the real power she holds in Juneau for the comforts of life in the Naval Observatory. Unless there's more to it that we don't know about.

No they haven't and they wouldn't have been unless it was someone conservatives liked. But we may turn out to be disappointed afterward.
