In the shadow of the blatant and truly stunning sexism launched against the Hillary Rodham Clinton presidential campaign, and as a pro-choice feminist, I wasn't the only one thrilled to hear Republican John McCain announce Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. For the GOP, she bridges for conservatives and independents what I term "the enthusiasm gap" for the ticket. For Democrats, she offers something even more compelling - a chance to vote for a someone who is her own woman, and who represents a party that, while we don't agree on all the issues, at least respects women enough to take them seriously.
Whether we have a D, R or an "i for independent" after our names, women share a different life experience from men, and we bring that difference to the choices we make and the decisions we come to. Having a woman in the White House, and not as The Spouse, is a change whose time has come, despite the fact that some Democratic Party leaders have decided otherwise. But with the Palin nomination, maybe they'll realize it's not up to them any longer.

I love Tammy, she makes some great points.
What the hell? Did they dump Conservojuice in the water supply in SF? First Willie Brown and now Tammy Bruce??
Tammy is a my favorite lesbican but this is not about feminism
not even.
But if Palin can pull some of the feminist vote, there’s nothing wrong with that...Palin got picked, I believe, because she was a good choice. If she draws some of the feminist vote from those who feel the dems dumped on them with Biden, all to the good...
“Bros before Ho’s” has special resonance for Tammy.
As L.A. chapter NOW president, it was the enforced silence over O.J. Simpson’s murder of Nicole that was the last straw for her.
In the PC femniverse The Ace of Spades beats the Queen of Hearts.
any vote the GOP can get to drive a stake in the allegorical heart of Count Obama suits me
but folks who try to piggyback their feminist agenda on the baclk of Sarah do so at their peril and are dangerous to social conservatism.
He unabashed embrace of social conservatism is what I hold dear about her....not this notion by some here that she validates feminism.
“In her time in office, Palin’s focus has not been to kick the gays and make abortion illegal; it has been to kick the corrupt and make wasteful spending illegal.”

That’s a keeper. Trouble is, if you’re a single-issue fanatic you don’t care about such trivia.
I agree with your analysis of Palin...but they will see it through their eyes, and vote accordingly. And the more votes when it comes time, the merrier. And if they feel the dem leadership dumped on them, maybe at least a few of them will examine what a bunch of crap they have been lead to believe...
And that would be a good thing.
Trouble is, if you’re a republican congresscritter, you think all you have to do is make the appropriate noises on gay marriage every two or six years and the fools will re-elect you no matter what else you do.
Tammy has it right. The Dems only practice politics of division and when they’re done with you it’s time to get under the bus.
I agree...I think she and McCain will pull some Dems
She will pull some gender only women
and he will no doubt pull more Jews than anyone since Magnus in 84.
Yep there a large number of reasons Palin was picked because:
1. energy is the issue of this campaign and she knows and has a track record on energy exploration,
2. she is a fresh face and Obama picked an long time Senator allowing an openning to steal the change/reform issue from the as you can hardly call a ticket of two US Senators an outsider ticket,
3. she did not run in the primaries and Obama by picking Biden left an openning for commericals using Bidens’s words against Obama if McCain did not pick someone like Romney who criticized him in the primaries,
4. her ability to energize the base,
5. her ability to unite the GOP,
6. she is a good campaigner and debator,
7. her ability to possibly attract some women voters based only on being a woman.
Some of these are interelated, but all of these points made her the best choice and thankfully McCain made it.
Got to give the paper credit for publishing this. Had
me wondering, “that’s a SF paper, right?” Then I read the reader comments...yep, that’s SF.
After reading your post, I decided to check out the reader comments. You’ll have to wade through a lot of Obamabot stuff, but there are some serious comments there and not a few readers who say they are switching to McCain-Palin this November.
Even if they dump Biden and bring Hill on as running mate, McCain can simply remind America that HE’s the one who made this race more inclusive of women, NOT THE DEMS.

McCain wouldn't say that - but Sarah would.
I've been saying that McCain was playing with nothing but an inside straight, and on the last draw pulled the Queen of Hearts to beat a pair of jackasses.

(On the day McCain announced her selection as his running mate, Palin thanked Clinton and Ferraro for blazing her trail. A day later, Ferraro noted her shock at Palin’s comment. You see, none of her peers, no one, had ever publicly thanked her in the 24 years since her historic run for the White House.)
That’s called class. It also follows Jesus’s recommendation to love your enemies. It’s amazing how this opens their heart.
