Based on Obama’s reported draft number, his number — if the numbers are sequential or somewhat so — makes him to have registered in 1983 or later.

Oops — correction, 1983+18 = 2001. Obama’s number is close to both of my twin sons and they registered in 2001.

All males born on or after January 1, 1960, were required to register. Barry was born in 1961, so he was required to register.

I'm the same age as Barry and also graduated from high school in 1979. I remember registering in 1980 (after the law was enacted) and even having to get proof of my registration several years later when applying for a law license.

the military shifted to an all-volunteer system beginning in 1973.

Registration requirements were suspended in 1975.

In 1980, following the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan, draft registration was resumed under the Military Selective Service Act.

On March 25, 1975, Pres. Gerald Ford signed Proclamation 4360, Terminating Registration Procedures Under Military Selective Service Act, eliminating the registration requirement for all 18-25 year old male citizens.

Then on July 2, 1980, President Jimmy Carter signed Proclamation 4771, Registration Under the Military Selective Service Act, retroactively re-establishing the Selective Service registration requirement for all 18-26 year old male citizens

Jimmy Carter's Proclamation 4771 retroactively re-established Selective Service registration requirements for all 18-26 year old male citizens born on or after January 1, 1960.

Barry lies and embellishes many things, but it is true that he was required to register for Selective Service (not when he graduated, but the next year when registration went back into effect). Whether or not he actually registered has yet to be seen.

Of course, Barry's claim that he ever considered enlisting is pure B.S., right up there with Hillary's claim that she once tried to enlist in the U.S. Marines, but was turned way because she was too old and wore glasses.

BO : “I had to sign up for Selective Service when I graduated from high school... in 1979. “

Registration for selective service was not reinstated until July 2, 1980.

Every time this clown opens his mouth he gets caught in yet another lie. What really pisses me off is every time I see the pic of him playing basketball with a tee shirt with a USMC on it.

It's only fair. I thought about being a community organizer........... but instead went to Annapolis, flight school, flew Tomcats, went to Top Gun, flew in the Naval Reserves, and now carry a badge and gun(s) for the Department of Homeland Security.

I really don't have any questions about who makes America safer, me or ZerObama.

But keep in mind that I graduated in 1979. The Vietnam War had come to an end. We weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point.

Um, how about the Cold War, your worship? We were understrength, but in 1979 a bunch of us were training to repel a Warsaw Pact conventional attack on Germany, knowing if it happened we would take very heavy casualties.

'Coarse, the Democrats answer at the time was not a strong defense, but a nuclear freeze and appeasement. You never considered joining the military, you lyin' SOS.
