Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

What a night jsh3180.
Hoping rodguy911 checks in soon.
I love how the local bait wrapper always offers kudos to Keys Energy for keeping the lights on ... while we read the paper in the dark
the power came and left at least a dozen times in the last 24 hours
Keys Energy will sell a surge protector but they will tell you there are no guarantees and if you have more than one meter on your service it won't fit
glad you survived
As usual the most dangerous place in the Keys this past week was between our mendacious mayors and a media microphone. It's time to start evacuating the media when the dynamic duo evacuate tourists. Perhaps denying them face time will make them a little less trigger happy.

The graphic you posted with this thread has just added a bunch of states to the zone of uncertainty. Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. It is also edging into New Mexico, Colorado, and Mississippi (in Delta country). These are all in the Monday AM possibility. I figure that a lot of these folks have not been in a hurrcane warning area before. Do you think that they should be added to the topics list?

Thanks lots of good info there
Still a cat 1 by the time it gets right over my head just east of San Antonio.
The areas you mentioned are way out in the 5-day cone of uncertainty. As Elle Bee already pointed out, far inland, the storm will be a rain event.
A hurricane remnant level of rain would be pretty interesting in the Ozarks.
Sounds like yall had a rough night. Glad everyone is ok.
I think the storm surge is no longer a threat here in the Keys but the dirty side of this storm will slap us all day
I'm glad the wind is down when Wilma went by driving the storm surge I think it was a cat 4 or 5
.
We’re all watching this storm.
I guess that we should at least hold off for a couple of days then, although since Oklahoma is now in the four day projection, perhaps you should think again about it tomorrow, when it will be in the 3 day field, if things stay the same. Speaking of 3 day, it is predicting a tropical storm in Austin and the Texas Hill Country on Saturday, which should take care of the drought.
;o)
There are some new models out there with the digital converter built into the little tv, but early reviews are horrible.
I'm afraid that's above my pay grade.
