Hurricane Ike Live Thread
NOAA/NHC ^ | 7 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.

Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.

Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

A lot of new data to input, then the hamsters need to chew on it, spin the wheels, before they spit out solutions. Once again, please don’t focus on the GFDL. Look at the trend of all the models.

OK, whats up over at WU? They have had a blank screen on the models since7:45 CDST and now it is showing the 2:oo intializing forecast, not the 8:oo.

The hamsters are holding out for overtime pay and an extra ration of food.

but all of the better dynamical models are even farther to the right.

Does this mean to the east?

Note that all the models demonstrate a clear curve to the north. Ike’s continuing forward speed will be important for when the northward curve occurs. Ike is moving at a mere 10 mph now.

Yup, the slower the further east it might go.

Wishing you and yours the best as Ike approaches.

At work today, checking different sources showed projecting Ike to take a dip south to the Northern border of Mexico/Texas.

If it goes there, will it miss you?

Hope so but know even so you’ve got to make preparations since it is so close and won’t know til near the end of the trek across the GOM.

Prayers for all in the path of Ike.

Right now the IR looks like ying and yang chasing one another around the center.

Slower forward speed also allows more time for strengthening over the warmest GOM water.

Thanks. The Tx/Mexico border would put me on the bad side though. There is a place about 50 miles long between Kingsville and Raymondville. Not much there but cows and windmills. The “strip” would be a good place for Ike to go.

It was more expensive than the last big coffin cooler, but we are very pleased with its performance. Considered worth the price.

I was looking at those guardian generators. They are really coming down on price and will automatically kick on...if they don't get blown away.

My clear shutters are first though. I keep scheduling estimates and my husband keeps cancelling them. Wants to wait until winter....actually I think he's going to order the material and try to do it himself.
