Hurricane Ike is the fifth tropical cyclone of the 2008 hurricane season to threaten U.S. Gulf Coast states.
Reports from Turks & Caicos Islands describe 80 per cent of homes damaged or destroyed. On Sunday, Hurricane Ike's position just north of Hispanola was hampering relief efforts for devastation incurred by Hurricane Gustav and Tropical Storm Fay. The death toll in Haiti from Gustav reached 200 people.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist held a press conference Sunday morning shortly after a Hurricane Watch was issued for the Florida Keys.

Hey NN, any chance this thing will fall off into the Caribbean just offshore of Cuba and start regenerating again?
We have no shortage of Govt. here in the Keys.
Especially for a population of 73,000 and declining every year.
Wow spectacular, anyone know what the surge was there?
Depends on when Ike makes the turn toward WNW/NW. Latest sat loop appears to still be moving W. If this keep up much longer, Ike will emerge on the other side of Cuba.
Haven’t heard the Cuba surge numbers. The video clip mentioned water rushing in 5-6 blocks. I noted at least one sea wall in the video.
why is that guy still a sheriff ... oh I forgot it's Moron County Florida
we have nothing but RINOs in the GOP down here
.
.
Thanks NN, that’s kinda what it looked like to me but you never know.
I am sure it was huge, truth is we dodged a bullet that they took, could have hit us just as easily.
I know what you mean. Latest advisory confirms Ike is still moving W. Winds 100 mph, 960 mb.
Maybe if word leaks out into Cuba they might start revolting a little bit against Raul and fat Hugo who will without a doubt claim to save the Cuban people before long.
Plus, the homos in Key West don't procreate.
Davis gave our Pubbie club a brilliant presentation about his many years with the DEA. He was responsible for countless drug busts and managed a budget for a while of close to 900 mill!
This guy is the real thing and can be a huge addition to law enforcement in the Keys,IMHO.
LOL that might just define RINO
Moron county sheriff department should lose the air force and about half of the deputies ... it's bloated and it's inefficiency is only outdone by it's self importance
do you know down on stock island they run a petting zoo under the oceanview jail?
.
Truth is when property values begin rising again down here and they have to since homes are currently selling far below true replacement cost, you will see a lot of long time locals leave.
.
Winds steadily picking up here basically 24-28 knots both here in the Upper Keys and in the Middle Keys a little bit less in Lower Keys.
