INCREDIBLE SHRINKING TIMES FEELS THE 'PINCH'

The New York Times yesterday said it will cut back the number of sections it has in the daily paper it sells in the metro New York area beginning next month, the latest cost-saving move at the beleaguered newspaper.
The change returns to four the number of sections in the paper, and represents an about-face from the daily's fanfare-filled move in 1997 to expand to six sections and incorporate color onto its pages.
As part of the move, the Sports section will now be pushed back into the Business section on Tuesdays through Fridays. The Metropolitan section will be published as part of the A section, with national and international news, on Monday through Saturday.
The latest move comes amid a steady stream of unrelenting bad news on the advertising front for the New York Times Co., which recently cut more than 100 editorial jobs at its flagship newspaper.
The Times on Aug. 26 said that newspaper ad revenue companywide fell 12 percent in July versus a year ago.

Ping!
How about cutting all the sections that are actually opinion and not news?
Then, after we read it, we could make a paper airplane out of it.
If they would put out a newspaper that EVERYONE would want to read instead of publishing just another DNC newsletter, maybe advertisers would start shooting a little business their way.
It’s really scandalous, what they have done to the Times.
If it was true, like they claim, that it is “internet competition”, then papers like the Post would not be growing while the Times shrinks.
The NYTimes used to be the paper of record. Now people laugh at it. They had THREE, count them, three, rumorfed stories about Palin on their front page, but Edwards they refused to cover because it wasn’t “verified” (with reporters chasing him into the bathroom).
They had magazine sections, classified, real estate, etc- so much to offer. But they created such illwill nobody wants to buy them except committed liberals, elitists, and America haters.
Screwing with the sport page is going to destroy whatever “local” readers they have.
Now, HOW MANY government-paid NY Times subscriptions are there?
Good question. I know our small town library out here in Arizona has a subscription. I may have to speak to some of the city council boys about that. They all are pretty conservative. I hate to see money being wasted just to help prop up a failing “newspaper.”
I wouldn’t be surprised. The leftist moonbat bloggers don’t seem to be getting the job done. They’ve been messing up by the numbers and causing the DemocRATS a lot of misery with their phony “scandals.”
Ha-Ha!
I love watching this death.
I was more or less talking about Kos, the Huffington Puff and the DUmmies. It appears that they were put in charge of the “scandal” creation unit.
the 3 frontpage stories about Palin attacks Mccain and call into question Mccain’s vetting process. The irony, a few days later, NYT have to withdraw one of the rumors that Palin used to be in a seperatist party. Wheres the vettign process in NYT?
THAT explains the 6% unemployment rate!
I agree. I see that coming. Governor Palin has to be destroyed. The Democrats, like the Nazis or the old Soviet Union, believe that this country belongs to them whether the American people like it or not.
And Islamic terrorists.
