The National Enquirer is reporting Gov. Sarah Palin had an extramarital affair. The story doesn't mention when the alleged affair happened.
My sources in Alaska say the incident occurred in mid 1990s, right around the time she became mayor of Wasilla. Todd Palin's partner in a Polaris snowmachine dealership in Wasilla, Brad Hanson Hampton, and Sarah were reportedly flirtatious and but never consummated the relationship.
When Todd found out, he reportedly dissolved the partnership and sold the dealership. Hampton is now a member of the Palmer City Council. He was married at the time of the reported flirtation.
Here's the response from the McCain people:
The smearing of the Palin family must end. The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Governor Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie. Governor Palin is the most popular governor in the country. She is a proven leader, an accomplished executive, a champion for ethics reform, and a fighter against corruption. The efforts of the media and tabloids to destroy this fine and accomplished public servant are a disgrace. The American people will reject it.
Senator McCain and Governor Palin look forward to discussing the issues that Americans care about, fixing broken government, creating jobs, making our country energy independent and securing the peace for the next generation by bringing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to a victorious end. Legal action will be considered with regard to this disgraceful smear. McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt.
There's a lot of criticism about the way the media is treating Sarah Palin. A national story on an almost-affair does raise questions about how much of Palin's personal life should be dragged out for public scrutiny. It certainly must be an uncomfortable time for the Palin family.
Does a decade old flirtation have news value in a presidential campaign?
*I've gotten reponses back saying the incident may have tested her relationship but she seems to have come out the other side in a stronger relationship.
And Oprah uses Carpet Fresh as breath freshener draw your own conclusions...
Where is Gayle??
Hillary won’t be one of them.
Rintense, I haven’t come across your name in too long. My fault. Hope you are well!
I don’t agree. Emotional affairs can be just as, or even more damaging than physical affairs.
I guess with Lewinsky, it was 50% consummated...

And I saw her hug John McCain on national TV! What a loose woman!
Rumor has it she was late returning a library book in 1976...but wasn’t fined because of her political connections.
She also giggled once in front of another man - like we don’t all know what THAT means!
This stuff isn’t just stupid, it is Olbermann-stupid!
I think you’re the only one that thinks about Obama in a dress.
That’s why I didn’t say all wives.
Sort of like all the stuff here back in the Clinton days...
Well, it's mocking, insulting, and putting to shame the defamers, slanderers, and libelers. (They need it.)
Yes and no. You can’t totally equate the two. If you make the two situations the same, then everyone who makes an emotional connection with someone else might as well consummate it. That is certainly not recommended.
Regardless of deep damage done, the two things are not interchangeable.
I agree. Sarah deserves more respect.
How interesting that the National Enquirer has followed the pattern of the Times, in its smear of Palin. The story admits that there is no evidence of an affair. Instead, it concludes that there was no affair. Still, the smear gets printed anyway.
Tabloid is tabloid, even if the purveyor is a "newspaper of record."
This garbage will confirm the worst thoughts of the Obamabots. But we can hope that a net gain of votes will move to McCain-Palon because of this reprehensible press behavior.

...these stupid lefties remind me of a cat walking around and pawing a turtle inside its shell, trying to figure out how to attack it
...Sarah sealed their fate on wed night...it’s over dems!
Well, Anita Hill accused Justice Thomas of some pretty awkward flirting a long long time ago. Maybe we're seeing a pattern. If a minority escapes the plantation, accuse them of flirting.
