OBAMA GOES AFTER PALIN ON EARMARKS (Speaking to 800 people in Terre Haute, Ind.,)
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | September 6, 2008 | staff

Posted on 09/06/2008 5:58:32 PM PDT by Presbyterian Reporter

Obama made his first direct criticism of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin on Saturday, saying she pretends to oppose spending earmarks when she actually has embraced them.

Speaking to 800 people at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute, Ind., the Democratic presidential nominee ridiculed McCain and his running mate, the Alaska governor, for describing themselves as agents of change at last week's GOP convention.

"Don't be fooled," Obama told the crowd surrounding him in a large barn. "John McCain's party, with the help of John McCain, has been in charge" for nearly eight years.

McCain has vowed to wipe out earmarks, which are targeted funding for specific projects that legislators put into spending bills. As governor, Palin originally supported earmarks for a controversial $398 million Alaska project dubbed the "bridge to nowhere." But she dropped her support after the state's likely share of the cost rose. She hung onto $27 million to build the approach road to the bridge.

When the Presidential candidate begins attacking the opposition’s Vice-Presidential candidate then you know that they have lost.

Revealing. This recalls the axiom observed by talk show hosts - never criticise hosts with ratings lower than your's.

I do not know if the University has started classes yet, but if it has Obama was not able to attract the students and (most likely) liberal professors to his rally.

Terre Haute is home to Indiana State University, a public university with a student population just over 11000.

Terre Haute, Ind. - - isn’t that one of those small towns where people cling to God and guns?

So let us look at Obamas’ earmarks. Let’s begin when he was a state Senator for illinois. I believe he earmarked 14 milllion for renewal of buildings in south chicago. For a reward Reznik gave him 300,000 value in land next to a property he had bought the same day as Reznik.

I’m watching the rally from NM.

Sarah just mentioned this, said that 0 had asked for a million dollars in earmarks in three years. And she didn’t think he wanted to go there.

LOL!

“””OBAMA GOES AFTER PALIN ON EARMARKS

Keep in mind this is the headline in one of the most liberal of all the MSM newspapers the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

I intentionally picked a very liberal MSM report of Obama’s lack of audience.

I hope he gets crushed so badly that I end up feeling sorry for him.

That would be nice, but I don't think it's possible for him to get a NEGATIVE number of votes.

I could have sworn it was Congress that passed earmarks and not Governors.

Learn something new every day.

I e-mailed the McCain website asking that they create an ad that explained earmarks and how much each candidate has appropriated. McCain has $0. Obama....millions and millions he's only been in DC a few years.

I agree Obama needs to be crushed. What we FReepers need to do is to make a tally of Obama’s lackluster rallies. MSM will try to hide the numbers, but I know I can count on the FReeper army to ferret out the info.

If people perceive Obama is not worth listening to, those people will also not take the time to go to the polls to vote for him.

Perception is reality.
