ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska lawmaker leading an investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's dismissal of her public safety commissioner should be removed because he appears to be manipulating the probe to damage her vice presidential candidacy, a Republican legislator says.

What is it that people don't understand about the concept that an 'appointed' administrator serves at the pleasure of the governor! It's well within Sarah Palin's purview to dismiss Monegan if he is not effective in carrying out her plan. The President can dismiss a cabinet member who is not on board with the program.

I couldn't believe my ears when on ABC news (on the radio), I heard the person leading the investigation state, "Well, there's going to be a surprise in October!" all gleeful.

I asked myself, is this forreal? If it's an investigation, should a conclusion be made upfront, investigation to follow, or vice versa? Talk about biased!

What I am hoping is that Palin and McCain will not act as poor Alberto Gonzalez - he was like a dear in the headlights when he got the double standard on the US attorney firings. Recall, he peed his shoe when that came up.

Compare that to the Clintons who fired ALL the AUSA's when they came into power... and not a chirp from anyone.

They had to have looked at this in the vetting process.

Glad to hear all of this information...for the first and only time...

If you really think that's the direction the MSM will be going in this campaign, you haven't been paying attention.

I would love to believe they knew about this during vetting and knew it would amoung to nothing. But I don’t trust the lunatics and they are getting desperate.

Somehow I don’t think that our Sarah is the ‘deer in the headlights’ type, and it’s sounding like she’s got McCain running on a full head of steam.

Where you made your mistake was in thinking that I was talking about the media... which will not carry anything remotely damaging to zero... but 527’s and McCain will run ads and talk radio and Fox will report it... and the truth shall overcome.

Branchflower, the investigator selected, has a MAJOR conflict of interest and never should have been selected. This is a friggin' set-up! Check out some of the info on this page from a pro-Palin blog:

Major Conflict-of-Interest for Investigator

Branchflower's wife, at a minimum, is an enthusiastic proponent of Monegan (or was in 2001 when he was selected to be Chief of the Anchorage PD, and both Branchflowers have close ties to the Anchorage PD where Monegan was Chief.

Branchflower is personally conflicted even if he might be the most impartial person, he never should have been selected. The whole "case" needs to be tossed.
