I think an important distinction that needs to be drawn is that Palin never said she opposed ALL earmarks of every kind....she’s ooposed to the ABUSE of the earmark process. I don’t know how any state could operate without SOME federal funding for roads, freeways, etc.

Her record of reform against those who become corrupted by abusing the process is pretty solid - she’s gone after members of both parties and I have little doubt she’d shake up Washington as well.

Time to bring up his million dollar earmark to UofC that corresponded to his wife's 160% raise. Bring it on!

He probably pronounced it “haughty” since he is more familiar with that word.

Exactly! There are good earmarks and bad earmarks. Count on Obama not to know the difference!

Seems to be she was doing her job. Her job is to get back as much money as she can that the citizens of Alaska send to DC to be .... away. That is her job as mayor or governor or head of the PTA.

Well, well ... this is a great introduction to Obama’s oversight of millions in the Annenberg Challenge.

If you taken earmarks, don't lecture about it to others if they've done it.

Particularly when you've requested earmarks for your wife's boss. Clueless.

From a March 14, 2008 NYT article:

Senator Barack Obama on Thursday released a list of $740 million in earmarked spending requests that he had made over the last three years, and his campaign challenged Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to do the same.

The list included $1 million for a hospital where Mr. Obama’s wife works, money for several projects linked to campaign donors and support for more than 200 towns, civic institutions and universities in Illinois.

But as the Senate debated a bill to restrict the controversial method of paying for home-state projects — a measure defeated Thursday evening — Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign also said that only about $220 million worth of his requests had been approved by Congress. And among those that had been killed were his request in 2006 for $1 million for an expansion of the University of Chicago Medical Center, where Mr. Obama’s wife, Michelle, is a vice president.

Mr. Obama’s aides and officials at the hospital said Mr. Obama’s wife had had nothing to do with the request. Campaign officials said he had voluntarily released the list of his earmark requests to underscore his promise to bring greater openness and transparency to government, an issue on which he has tried to put Mrs. Clinton on the defensive.

DESPERATE and CONFUSED... in Democratland.....

Obama is loosing it day by day. Just listen to the weakness of his attack on Palin. And why is he even “debating” Palin? She is the VP of the other party. I just can’t imagine this is a smart campaign strategy for Obama.

And yesterday, his comments about guns to his handpicked ground in PA. Whiny and pathetic.

I always thought Obama was very bright, articulate, able to connect with voters, but he just had no experience. Now I am beginning to wonder how did he ever get nominated? Hillary has to be fuming. How could such an idiot beat me. That is why she wouldn’t drop out of the race. I am sure in her heart, that she just couldn’t believe she would loose to this empty suit when it was all said and done.

I’ll bet you the democratic party brokers are very worried behind the scenes. They see the “Titanic Obama” going down fast. And all Obama is doing is having the band play another song while the water rises around their instruments.

“I’m not sure he wanted to open that door”

He probably had no choice. Someone had to shoot back and they probably decided that crazy Uncle Joe would probably flub it with some kind of an end game slur.

Why do I keep thinking this election will be a McCain landslide? I hear the poll numbers. I see the stories and read the reports. However, I just don't see blue-collar Dems from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania voting for Obama. I'm beginning to think the Dems want to keep thier poll numbers high so, when the inevitable landslide occurs, blacks in this country will be outraged by having their election "stolen" from them....

And I have anecdotal evidence that Obama isn't even particularily liked by all black people. From my wanderings around here in Mississippi, he seems to be loved only by black women....seems his only reliable constituency is the OJ Jury. Black men are mixed (you won't get them to admit they don't strongly support Obama, but you can hear it in their voice). Of course, this is all anecdotal.

What a hypocrite. Obama has requested earmarks for his wife's hospital and political allies as well as similar ones to those Palin requested (hospitals, universities, city infrastructure).

There are legitimate earmarks and absurd ones, like ones for the Woodstock Museum.
