A Letter From the Editor: The Future of the Sun (Conservative NYC response to NYT shutting down)
The New York Sun ^ | 09/04/08

Posted on 09/05/2008 8:52:44 AM PDT by presidio9

Dear Readers of the Sun:

This morning I write to you about the future of The New York Sun, which is in circumstances that may require us to cease publication at the end of September unless we succeed in our efforts to find additional financial backing. The managing editor, Ira Stoll, who is one of the founding partners in the paper, and I have shared this news with our colleagues, and we would like our readers as well to be aware of the situation.

-SNIP-

Certainly, launching this paper in the months immediately after September 11, 2001, was an optimistic project. Nearly seven years later, our editors and backers are even more of the view that there is indeed a place for the kind of intelligent, thoughtful broadsheet we envision in our city, which is why we are scrambling to find others who share this vision and the sense of possibility. If we fail, the newspaper and its voice will die. All the more energetic will be our efforts in the coming weeks to ensure that the conversation we've begun these past few years will continue.

Yours faithfully,

Seth Lipsky

Editor of the Sun

President, ONE SL LLC

As much as I loved the Sun, I will get over the Sun, my grief will be greatly helped if her investors now get behind 970AM radio WNYM, home of Michael Medved, Dennis Preger, and John Gibson. Air America failed in NYC, yet it is currently supporting 3 conservative daytime programming schedules.

I was one of the early subscribers to The Sun.

They have some excellent reporters but much of the paper was filled with articles written by AP. Blech.

When the subscription ran out I did not renew.

I grew up in NY (50s/60s) and back then there was a World-Telegram and Sun. I assume this Sun is one and the same?

The Sun is a terrific paper, and if they go under, I will greatly miss them.

I’m hoping they find the financing they need.

Why don’t they just end their print publication? Nobody I know, not even my 82 year old Dad, reads print newspapers anymore. They all get their news online. The sun has an excellent website. That is enough.

Very good! LOL

Actually, we should make A.P. Blech the personification of the sort of biased reportage (non-reportage, really) provided by the major newswires. Sort of like Erma Bombeck's I. Dunno, the mysterious figure responsible for all the irresponsible acts commited in her house.

If it's Curtis as in Sliva, I'd rather have a root canal.
