Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic "Barracuda" as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart's rep, who says "The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission."
The statement goes on: "We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored."
We're told Ann was watching TV today and heard the song at the convention when Palin was touted.

That’s Nancy Wilson playing guitar on the right side of the stage in the video.

Oops sorry if it sounded as though your writing was much improved by the strike, I just posted regarding your post. It was not. The insult was clearly intended at Ann and Nancy. i know you know that but it came out not as respectful as I would hace liked. Your post was actually informative. Just wanted to say something antceecee :-).

Paying a royalty is not the same as obtaining approval to play a song. They don't have to "ask for permission", but are granted permission by the payment of royalties.

“Barracuda” is used for bumper music on several talk shows.

That's okay. We would rather listen to Gretchen Wilson anyway (she preformed last night with John Rich).

Stevie was an Army brat (maybe wrong branch) so I’ll give her some credit.

Maybe. But she visits military hospitals, gives out whatever replaced CD players and visits with the wounded, All without fanfare.

“they are angry that someone who uses their song doesnt like killing babies like they probably once did..”
I’d be willing to bet it was more than once.

I don’t care. I too love Heart since 1975. They are truly talented. They don’t have to be sane. Artists never do.

We saw Jackson Browne in concert at a National Guard Armory in Mobile AL back in 1974, when he was just beginning to be popular. We really wanted to see Phoebe Snow, who was opening for him on that tour, but she cancelled, and somebody else opened, instead; I don't even remember who it was.
I've always liked Jackson Browne's music; some more than others, but I like his voice.

And some republicans, thinking it's a patriot song, still play Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The USA' at their events. The song is actually anti-American, as is Springsteen himself.
It was one of the first songs played after Obama's spectacle in Denver (before the fake Greek columns were hauled back to that studio lot).
Like many who have posted on this thread, I have a few favorites whose inability to keep their babbling liberalism to themselves (i.e., they can't shut up and sing) has dampened my appreciation for their music. My Springsteen CDs haven't been played much since 2004 and will probably disappear from my rack to make room for something I'll be eager to use very soon. I refuse to part with the magnificent Fleetwood Mac albums though...I just don't read interviews anymore. And thankfully with Stevie's songs you can usually find whatever meaning you want in them.
Funny how I rarely have this problem with country artists.

The Ohio Republican party made a McCain TV ad that used Jackson Browne’s “Running on Empty”. Since this was for use in a film context, they needed permission.
