Fired-up Palin rocks arena, rips her foes

Sarah Palin, the Republicans' surprise choice for vice president, took direct aim at her detractors Wednesday as she reached out to a nation eager to hear her life story.

"I'm not a member of the permanent political establishment," said Palin, claiming her spot as the first woman on a GOP ticket for the White House. "And I've learned quickly, these past few days, that if you're not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators," she continued, to lusty boos directed at the press covering the Republican National Convention. "I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this great country."

Palin also launched a spirited attack against Democratic nominee Barack Obama:

"Listening to him speak," she said, "it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform -- not even in the [Illinois] state Senate. ...

"My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of personal discovery."

In the most highly anticipated moment of the convention, the first-term Alaska governor and mother of five made her first major address since presidential nominee-to-be John McCain chose her for the No. 2 spot.

Delegates gave her an exuberant response.

Said McCain, who joined Palin onstage with her family at the end of her 40-minute speech...

--snip--

The Obama campaign responded quickly. "The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush's speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we've heard from George Bush for the last eight years..

How do you get partisan attacks from George Bush when Bush was virtually mum?

Stay home or vote third party. Don't be surprised with what you get.

I feel intimidated by that woman. She might be a better shot than me .... nah, but it'd be fun to find out with a little match at the range. (Disclaimer: My wife kicks a$$ in double trap, and keeps me honest.)

Actually, everyone pretty much agrees that the speech reminded them of Ronald Reagan. Only someone suffering from BDS would say that it reminded him of GWB. GWB did some good things, as well as a few bad, but no one ever said he gave great speeches. And he almost never answered back to his enemies and gave them what they deserved.

As the day has passed and I have considered the events and Governor Sarah Palin's outstanding, all-American speech last night, and now that McCain delivered his onw...I am more and more convinced that this good woman has in fact been preserved there in Alaska...quietly (to the rest of us here in the lower 48, or as they say up there us here in the "outside") respondiong to the promptings of her own heart to get involved and accomplishing much in her own right as she was prepared to be there to come to America's aid when John McCain made this inspired call...and I believe McCain was inspired in this choice.

Amazing. Despite all the planning, the positioning, the buying of influence, the pedaling of influence, and the rock star blitz of the other side...we are seeing that, IMHO, the good Lord can prepare something off to the side that wholly undoes all of that wrangling.

That's what we are seeing here IMHO.

Written by George Bush’s speech writer...
***seems like he’s been twiddling his thumbs for 8 years and finally had some good stuff to work with. Almost like GWB was a placeholder for conservatism in America...

.

.

Here’s how I’ve been bumping Palin/Obama threads.

Sung to the tune of “Oh! Susanna, don’t you cry for me.”

“Oh, no Bama, please don’t lie to me... for I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee.”

I come from Minnesota with my laptop on my knee;
I’m goin’ to Free Republic my true love for to see.
It rained all night the day I left,
the weather it was dry;
The sun so hot I froze to death,
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I come from Minnesota,
with my laptop on my knee.

I had a dream the other night,
When everything was still;
I thought I saw Obama dear,
A-coming for The Hill.
The smearing lie was in Duluth,
The tear was in his eye,
Said I, I’m coming for the truth
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic,
with my laptop on my knee.

I fight in my pajamas,
It’s plain for all to see.
I aim to be the next Buckhead;
The media all hate me.
I fell in love with Sarah
When my sister bit a moose.
The Guvnor’s family ate it up
And then they set it loose.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic,
with my laptop on my knee.

She loves her sons, she likes her guns,
and Trigonometry.
The media will jump the shark
When Juan makes history.
Well, JimRob knows she’ll pave the trolls
So controversially,
And Berg will knock Obama down
With friends of Hillary.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you lie to me;
I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee.

I soon will be in Hawaii,
And then I’ll look all ‘round,
And when I find his birth record,
I’ll fall upon the ground.
But if I do not find it,
This Freeper’ll surely die,
And when I’m dead and buried,
Obama don’t you lie.

Oh! No Bama, don’t you cry for me;
I’m off to Free Republic with a laptop on my knee

She is the only one of those considered that will get me to vote for McCain!

I really think she is sharp enough to change his mind on a number of issues.

While Obama was learning to campaign, Palin was learning to lead.

[Sigh in contentment.]

I guess I need to get off my tail and start helping more in other ways and posting less. I’m outta here. You guys rock!

Yep, I agree. It does seem as though God had set her aside for this purpose ... such a time as this. Palin has incredible, God-given talents and great moral clarity, it seems.

During the primaries, I prayed for God’s will. I was disappointed McCain was our nominee. However, perhaps if there was no McCain, there would be no Sarah on the ticket. I don’t pretend to know how this election will turn out, but I am amazed and heartened by what is happening right now.

I agree 1000%! Kind of reminds me of King David just tending his sheep in preparation for his encounter with Goliath...God is so GOOD!

All things work together for good for those who love the Lord.

and this his how it should be... someone who's going about his/her business... and then is approached... told he/she is needed to lead... not someone who aspires to the position his/her entire life... the former make better leaders...

I had NPR on this morning (yes I know), and the arrogance displayed by their guests was astounding.
The NPR Guests were national media members, Eleanor Clift (sp) from Newsweek I think was her name (I read Newsweek in the 1980’s, and wasn't sure it was still around) was one guest.

Basically these people just don't get it. They have no idea how the people that built this country and made it great, and continue to make it great, are wired.

The Clift person said that Palin might scrape off some “Annie Oakley” types that normally would vote for Hillary.
Called McCain's pick “cynical”...

We all need to work hard to get McCain/Palin elected. The contrast just couldn't be starker.
The fact that McCain/Palin have 3 children in the military would be reason enough to strongly support them.

Yes it is...exactly how it should happen...and all the better when that call comes from the heart, from within, without schooling for it, without aspiring to it...but in the midst of her normal life, hearing the call in her heart and then going from there...line upon line, here a little and there a little until this type of wonder is performed on an ordinary person whose sole desire was simply to help her family, community, state, and now nation.
