Palin candidacy brings out hypocrisy

MIKE MCHUGH September 4, 2008 - 6:50PM

The Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain is called many things: an American patriot, statesman and a maverick.

While his credentials on the first two points are unequivocal, he may have raised the definition of maverick to a whole new level with his boldest move to date - selecting Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

The move has energized the Republican base and has sent the left wing of the Democratic Party and most of the mainstream media into a tizzy.

The mantra being spewed by the sycophants from the studios inside 30 Rock to the left-wing blogs is that she is politically inexperienced, owns guns and gave birth to her fifth child at age 43.

Closer to home, a Hillary Clinton supporter told me last week that she was outraged at John McCain if he thought selecting "a woman with big hair" as his running mate might get her vote. Funny, that hairstyle never offended the 1.5 million Texans, mostly Democrats, who voted for Ann Richards as governor of Texas in 1990. And let's not forget a certain Arkansas governor who had a fling with a state employee named Paula Jones who sported a large doo worthy to be the third female singer in the rock band, The B-52's.

Like so many things in the nether and vacuous world of left-wing politics, reality is measured through a myopic prism taken from experiences usually imagined or conjured up on the big screen and rarely based in reality.

The ascension of a woman to the second highest office in the land has already happened in the eyes of the left.

You'll recall in 2005, Vice-President Mackenzie Allen, played by the esteemed and very liberal Hollywood actress Geena Davis became President of the United States after the death of President Teddy Bridges. If you forgot this bit of American history, don't feel bad. It occurred in fiction on the short-lived (thankfully) ABC primetime drama, "Commander-in-Chief."

When the show first aired, Davis opined, "We're making this as entertainment. But God willing, if this show stays on and people see a woman in that office for a while, I think it will help people become more used to it. It's certainly about time that we had a few female presidents."

Obviously, under her breath and out of earshot of the microphones she finished that sentence with the words, "so long as they are Democrats." (This is a construct and while it may be true I have no idea what her politics are.)

It goes without saying, left-leaning liberals love Hollywood and tinsel town is all too willing to feed the masses hackneyed political tripe that make Republicans look like stooges and Democrats the embodiment of every day Americans.

Take the 1993 movie, "Dave," in which a temp agency owner, Dave Kovic played by actor Kevin Kline with an uncanny resemblance to the then current president is asked to stand in when the chief executive falls into a coma. Dave, with no experience in governance but merely a mirror image of the president begins to fulfill the role and duties of the president. The nation and the throngs of movie goers loved it. Here was a "regular" guy occupying the seat behind the desk in the Oval Office. Heck anyone can do it... so long as he's a Democrat.

Now America has a real Cinderella vying for the second highest office in the land. And while many people in the heartland and fly-over states feel a certain connection to the Alaskan governor, the usual suspects in the Democratic Party and their minions on the extreme fringes are beginning to display their inherent hypocrisies.

As the next eight weeks play out and we begin to learn more about Sarah Palin, the deafening silence from the likes of the National Organization of Women will be most noticeable and telling.

The United States of America has been ready for some time for a person of color or a woman to be president or vice-president, but until the candidacy of Sen. Barack Obama and Gov. Sarah Palin, very few have demonstrated the talent or courage of their convictions to make a go of it.

I had to laugh at the comment made that John Mac showed his weakness and desperation in his choice.

Sara Palin is a proven doer and a clear communicator. (Scares Hell out of the Democrats)
Sounds like a strong decision to me.

The numbered slander of the dem party.

1. She’s not qualified! She is? Then:

2. She simply can’t do the job. 86% approval rating? Then:

3. What about her husband and children. They highly support her. Then:

4. Troopergate! In defense of her sister against a drunken pig of an officer who should have been fired for any of the counts against him.

5. SHE’S A WHORE[stomps feet and watches the election slipping from their fingers]

“Dave” was odd. A “regular guy” becoming president is no big deal (even thoguh it was presented as a coup-détat in the movie), I would expect movies to pander with that sort of folksy appeal. But since when is it the job of the president to get everyone American a job? Did Lord Keynes write some new constitution in the that fictional world?
