Perhaps it was the enormous will on the part of Americas liberal media that Sarah Palin should make a mess of her speech at the convention that willed her so much to succeed. She certainly did.
The speech fulfilled, and in some respects exceeded, the requirements of such an occasion. It did this by fulfilling, and in some respects exceeding, the expectations of the Republican faithful.

What? Palin was convicted?
Sorry, "conviction" is an odd way to describe a speech.
Lots of ulcers popping up in Democrat circles for sure.
We were watching the callers on C-Span last night late and one democrat woman from down South Carolina gave her typical “she’s not got enough experience” blah, blah, blah. But then she said “so, you democrats out there don’t be discouraged, just get out there and vote”...Hmmm, who said anything about being discouraged? That tells me that normal, everyday democrats who watched last night are worried and worried ALOT about Sarah Palin and the votes she will bring come November!
Strike conviction, insert passion.
you’ve never heard the expression “She/He has the courage of his/her convictions”? Convictions are beliefs and she has conservative convictions. That is what the writer meant.
Oh, I know the meaning the author was trying to impart. My issue was with the word choice of “conviction”. I think it was a poor choice for that use.
It was an awkward word choice that doesn’t quite mean what the author was trying to say. “Conviction” describes a person’s commitment to their beliefs, and doesn’t really describe a political speech, even a debut.
James Carville: “Y’all heah that? She got convictions! You all wanna elect a convict? Huh? Do ya?”
Motherhood sincerity ... sincere as in the trustworthiness of mothers.
“James Carville: Yall heah that? She got convictions! You all wanna elect a convict? Huh? Do ya?
LOL! Damn, I hear him saying that perfectly in my head....
The fact that she’s the only governor among the foun candidates makes me wish SHE was the nominee, and McCain her VP (if he just has to be on the stage).
The fact that she’s the only governor among the four candidates makes me wish SHE was the nominee, and McCain her VP (if he just has to be on the stage).
In Bowline for Columbine, Michael Moore presents the thesis that corporate America is trying to make people so afraid of the world that they will buy lots of products.
But, isn’t it interesting that the line “be afraid. be very afraid” is practically becoming a left-wing mantra (cf. comment #1 in the Telegraph story linked above).
It’s usually used in stories about global warming (I think Newsweek or Time even put the phrase on their cover last year)
But most interesting, it must be one of the democratic party’s talking points on Sarah Palin.
No joke.
The first comment on the Telegraph article says we should be afraid be very afraid of Sarah Palin. I put the phrase into google with Palin’s name and there are lists of links to people using that phrase about her.
And then I just put the phrase itself in, without her name, and a substantial portion of the first hundred links were various blogs and articles using the exact phrase (often in a headline) to describe how you should react to Sarah Palin.
Maybe someone who knows a bit more than me about the left wing blogs could do the same research and see if these various blogs are related?
