High energy prices have become a bitterly contested political issue. Republicans are bashing Democrats for standing in the way of drilling for more oil and gas at home, while Democrats retort that their rivals are misleading the American public by saying that such drilling would significantly lower prices. Yet amid the partisan bomb-throwing over America's future energy policy, Washington is actually making a rare effort to forge a compromise.
Over the summer a group of five GOP and five Democratic senators, dubbed the Gang of 10, hammered out a comprehensive energy proposal. And now, after taking withering heat from both left and right, the idea is gaining support.

On Oct 1 should there be no "compromise" we get it all because the ban expires.

Call the RINOs out in tonight's convention and embarrass them not to make this compromise. The little nugget that the Rats are giving in this “compromise” won't make a dent in the amount of oil.

To the Democrats, compromise is giving them 80% of what they want in exchange for 20% of what the Republicans want.

The way the article read the oil & gas industry pays for the plan with repeal of tax credits/breaks. Also said, McCain isn't on board ... probably because of the tax increase.
"...opening areas of the Outer Continental Shelf to drilling and boosting nuclear power. The Democrats get incentives for wind, solar, and other renewables along with energy efficiency measures and pay for much of the projected $84 billion cost by eliminating tax breaks on the oil and gas industry.
Appears to be a shot at doing something by a 'Do Nothing' Congress.

These RINOs think the American people want compromise. The American people want drilling everywhere there's oil.

I called Mitch Mconnel’s office. This is pure BS. Chambliss is a great example of what has been wrong with the GOP.

It's not ALL about prices. It's about jobs, shipping, refining, dependency AND NATIONAL SECURITY.
We will always need oil and gas.
Planes will never fly by windpower. That's called a kite.
Cars will always be. We're not going BACK to the horse and buggy.
Our country runs on the assets of nature. What great gifts we have in one single country.

The GOP has the opportunity to leave the Rats in the dust and do what's right for America, let the ban expire.

To the Democrats, compromise is giving them 80% of what they want in exchange for 20% of what the Republicans want. I doubt it will be 20%. Try a few crumbs or morsels. The GOP is crazy to make a poor compromise. We want the ban lifted on the entire OCS, ANWR open, drilling rules for shale in the Rockies, and ne new taxes on the energy industry. The left can have incentives for renewable energy. Even if the rats totally relent, there will still be enormous battles ahead. The fifth branch of government (environmentalists) will never stop fighting. The environmental laws allow third parties to obstruct energy development.

Chambliss is a total disappointment. He is the best example of what is wrong with the GOP. A darn near disgrace. I remember his pathetic excuses on the radio...
To: tobyhill
"Polls also show that Republicans are getting a major boost by blaming Democrats for blocking increases in oil and gas supplies, so why would they give up their best campaign issue? That is a VERY good question. I guess there IS a reason the GOP is called "the stupid party" -- trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think it goes further. Id guess most sitting Republican Senators do not want McCain to win....and especially Palin. They know their little kingdoms will come tumbling down. Some may pay a little lip service but they dont mean it.

Your “80/20” compromise should read more like 98/2 and then the Dem’s would whine all over the media about how the Rep’s were trying to “kill the children” by having ideas that were different than theirs!

With the complete ban expiring on Oct. 1 there better not be a compromise or else they have just handed the Rats permanent control of America.

I thought the state Territorial limit was 3 miles, why would anyone go for banning drilling from 3-50 miles out to sea?
As far as California, I want drilling from the beach out on Southern California, that's where the oil is!!!
