First-blush impressions of GOP vice presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin say the self-styled hockey mom will energize her running mates chances of becoming president.
Results of a national survey group conducted Wednesday night among 1,000 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents revealed that perceptions of Palin improved after viewing her acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.
The study, conducted by HCD Research and the Muhlenberg College Institute of Public Opinion, was designed to gauge Americans perceptions of the speech introducing Palin and her politics to the nation.
Among the findings:
After viewing Palins speech, a greater number of respondents across all parties believe that McCains selection of the first-term Alaska governor will help his campaign. Republicans were especially positive, with nearly three-quarters suggesting the pick will definitely help.
After viewing the speech, 70 percent of Republicans say they will definitely vote for the McCain/Palin ticket.
After viewing the speech, there is a 9 percent increase in the number of Independents that will probably or definitely vote McCain/Palin. Palins speech proved to be equally effective in swaying votes for both men and women.
Among Independents who watched Palins speech, respondents who reported they will probably or definitely vote for McCain increased by 10 percent across both genders -- around 38 percent for females and 36 percent for males.
Participants were asked pre- and post-viewing questions. Emotions were also measured using the Ayer Emotion Battery.

Excellent! =:-D
McCain/Palin ‘08!
Glad to hear it!
BTTT!
More bad news for Bambi.
I don't expect libs to be swayed. Nor would they expect Obama to sway me. But I'm not sure how any objective person could watch her speech last night, especially after all the belittling media scrutiny, and not be at least somewhat impressed.
The libs ain't so cocky anymore. As some say about the Miami Hurricanes, they seem to have lost their swagger! :-D
mayday mayday
axelrod is going down.
That's all? I'm not buying it.
My son-in-law is active duty military. One of his close friends is leaving next week to serve in Korea. After he watched Sarah last night, he said that the military has hope that they will get McCain for their Commander in Chief!
I just heard her(Sarah Palin)called;”SarahCuda-The Arctic Fox” on El Rushbo’s show.MEGA DITTOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
that doesn’t include the “probably” which takes it over 90%
That's 70% said 'definitely'. There may be another 10-20% who said probably.
I heard he does that anyway ;-)
I had another good laugh this morning. I listen to Rush and Mark Levin on line as often as possible. While I do that, I have my TV on mute and closed captions turned on. On many occasions I've found some pretty funny transcriptions by the CC system versus what was actually said by the person. Earlier on Fox News they were talking about the Obama campaign team's response to Palin's speech. The CC system interpreted the name Obama as Brandy, which I thought was pretty funny.
Very good choice! McCain did good!!!
Going back to when Geraldine Ferrera(sp), the first woman to ever be picked, was on the d ticket....
a very good friend told me ... of course I’m voting for her (Mondale?) after all she is a woman. Not her ability, but just because.
This was a very smart person and we had worked closely on many projects ...... but it changed my opinion of her.
Ive been waiting for ‘a Margaret Thatcher’ and we may just have her.
Needless to say, we were blessed with Ronald Reagan for 8 years.
But..... we also lived, daily, with the media blasting our Republican President, President Bush ooops!!! sorry It was President Reagan back then they tore into. It is President Bush they tear apart now!!!!
Tells ya somethin’ ya!!! and it says more about them, than us.
Got side tracked, sorry!
I will be proud to Vote for McCain and very impressed with his choice for a running mate.
Levi Johnston should marry Bristol Palin tonight at the Republican convention
In a brief ceremony before McCain’s speech.
They should fly in Clarence Thomas in to officiate.
McCain could be best man and her mom could be maid of honor.
Piper Palin would be the ring bearer.
The real test will also be in the House and Senate races. Will the McCain ticket inspire voters for the lower offices too. I pray so. I say, let Sarah go out to those tough House and Senate races and campaign there. My guess is, she will get Indies, Blue dog Dems, and others to also support those tough GOP races. It may indeed cut down on the losses expected by the Party and of course by the MSM>.
80% GOP
11% RAT
28% Indie
If you use the Rasmussen party affiliation breakdowns, that would translate into 37.7% of the vote for McCain, and Obama was at 43.4%.
After the speech, the percentages of people definitely or probably voting for McCain / Palin:
86% GOP
15% RAT
37% Indie
Again, using the Rasmussen breakdowns, McCain's vote share goes up to 43.7%, and the Obama share drops off to 41.1%.
That is a HUGE gain for us after just one speech. It took us from a 5.7 point deficit to a 2.6 point lead with these voters.
It is going to be a challenge to maintain our momentum, but we definitely have the voters' attention, and if we play things right, there is no reason our lead can't continue to expand from here.
