Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.
According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.
Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.
Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.
Sarah Palin. Winner.

” I had the impression that she had paper in front of her as back up. At certain points in the speech, the camera clearly showed a teleprompter — but at other points, I thought I saw her glancing down at a written speech from time to time.
She was smart enough to bring backup just in case of a technical problem. I bet Obama doesn’t do that. “
Noticed the same thing (back up), but also recognize that she didn’t appear to be reading from a script like many do when they have a written copy.
This is somebody who gets more comfortable as the speech unwinds, and knows how to deliver a message.
My 85 year old dad asked me how she did, as he didn’t get to watch the speech ,and I told him that she’s the real deal
His response: It’s about time we had a real straight talker who actually wants to do something......
I tend to notice details, and about 1/3 of the way through the speech, CNN got a shot of her and the teleprompter. The words she was speaking were NOT the ones on the teleprompter, and it did strike me as odd, at the time. I noticed that the Fox rebroadcast was pretty much entirely focused on HER. The CNN live broadcast kept panning to unflatering sideshots and some rear quartering shots that included shots of the apparently failing teleprompter. We were attending THe Rally in the Valley when we watched it and my family and I got interviewed by SeeBS out of San Fran. What electricity last night!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I too saw her looking down at her notes and from side shots turning papers over.
Did ya’ll notice her father, so laid back like he was at home in his living room? I bet she gets her ease and self-confidence from him.
I don’t think I heard her say UM one time !!! Compare this to .....
.
LOL!
That’s funny potlatch!

Thanks for pointing that out. Agree on the electricity, good to seed the delegates so supportive, and into the moment.
Great speech by Rudy also. You could tell he was enjoying himself.
Hope your interview gave you/family an opportunity to let the MSM know we really like Sarah and John.
Could have been even funnier if I had done some alterations on it!
This is believable, and frankly, I don’t think its a big deal for her. She was a sports caster and a journalism major. My kids are just getting into colleges now, and I notice that a journalism major falls under the field of “communications”.
Those that really looked into her background would expect her to be able to cover for such a common technological glitch. After all, before she entered politics, she was a professional communicator.
You can tell Piper has been tenderly loved, because she’s imitating what she’s learned.
LOL. That would be so rich if CNN was featuring shots of the teleprompter in an attempt to downplay her magnificent speech, and those same shots show the teleprompter had malfunctioned.
I am sick to my stomach!! Is this what liberal tolerance is??
Definitely...it’s more than Murphy’s Law, it’s intentional.
In this case, it was designed to make Palin look like a deer in the headlights. They are very creative and very clever, but they NEED ACCESS. I repeat, they NEED ACCESS. If they are kept clear...then they cannot do damage. But, against this bunch, you must treat everyone with suspicion and have ways around them.
The Republicans tend to be way too trustworthy.
... the adrenaline rush of fear of ones imminent demise.
Kind of like what the Imperial officers felt on Vader's Star Destroyer after losing track of the Millennium Falcon.
Imagine having your last sight be Ol' Crusty as you choked to death on the floor...
I agree, of course. There is nothing funny or entertaining about any of this. It is an absolute outrage that Team McCain would allow this to happen and that it would not better protect its VP candidate given the severe strain in which Governor Palin was operating.
.
I can imagine.....
I haven't read the text of her speech. Am I correct?
It seemed to be an off-the-cuff response to an audience chant.
I went off line last night so I wouldn’t miss a beat and came away with goosebumps that stayed with me for quite awhile. I am so proud of this woman I could scream! Unbelievable speech from a woman who has jazzed the base unlike anything I’ve seen in years. What a treasure we have and Rush said he wouldn’t be surprised if Obama dumps Biden and puts Hillary on his ticket as they realize they’re in trouble.
Posts 21, 22, 32, 62 and 187 seem pretty convincing.
