A Western frontier version of Thatcher?
NRO - The corner ^ | Thursday, September 04, 2008 | Larry Kudlow

A brilliant speech, brilliantly delivered. So many good lines. Sarah Palin shows us all that she is a superb communicator, which of course is so essential to a successful politician. Obviously, I think of Reagan. Personally, I loved the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull: lipstick. With a smile and a great quip, she signaled to her opponents that she is tough. Don't tread on me. I'm here now. I'm serious. I'm purposeful. I have strong convictions and you're not going to intimidate me. Nor will you push this lady around. A Western frontier version of Thatcher? Gosh, does the Republican Party need her.

She got high marks at National Review (Romney Country) where they are brutally honest despite the fact that NRO is a conservative magazine.

Governor Palin has many of the characteristics of Prime Minister Thatcher. She is intelligent, insightful and caring. She is not part of the elitist establishment. She has strong principles and is not going to be intimidated by the MSM. Why aren't there more Republicans like her?

I haven’t read every single Palin piece posted last night and this morning (there are many, of course) but so far the ones I have read all fail to reference what I think is her best line:

“Obama and Biden like to say that they will fight for you. But only one candidate in this election has actually FOUGHT for you.”

And I sincerely hope that her remark that she knows how much oil is there waiting for us on the north slope is a hint of things to come: McCain changing his mind on the subject of Arctic drilling.

There is some oil offshore. There’s much, much more up north.

And as Kudlow points out, Palin laid the groundwork for driving home the economic importance of more oil.

John McCain is a genius. Before, most people on FR seemed to be bitching and moaning about how mediocre he was going to be, and some even, rather petulently, threatened to boycott the election and thus let Obama win. Now almost everyone here is fawning over Sarah Palin, America’s answer to Margaret Thatcher apparently. Even though she is only on the VP ticket, rather than the main one.
Oh well, whatever keeps America from going down the toilet with an Obama/Biden victory....

Sometimes you need to win graciously... and you need to learn that.

Before you hoist too much praise on his genius, recall that some insiders revealed he wanted, and was pushing for, Liberman as his VP.

we’ll probably hear a lot of interesting things. A ‘flat’ tax with 2 rates, the need for social security reform with private accounts, a british style “Prime Minister’s Questions” session with congress...

Except that the insider info on McCain wanting Lieberman -- even just hours before his vp announcement -- came out AFTER the Palin selection.

I think Sarah made a very good point when speaking of drilling, she mentioned it would produce a lot of jobs, and I know these are well paying jobs.

She’s been accused of having no international experience. She’s just worked with Canada to have a natural gas line run through their country to ours.

It hasn't been posted since the first of the month. Maybe the keeper of the list has been won over by Sarah America.
