FOREIGN AID ... The discontinuance of foreign aid programs except where determined to be in our national interest. No foreign aid to Communist countries or those countries who aid Communists. COMMUNIST CUBA ... No recognition of Castro Cuba. A realistic approach to Central and South America. DEFICIT SPENDING ... Curtailment of Federal spending, bring about a balanced budget. AGRICULTURE ... A farm program that will not have the farmer at the bottom of the economic ladder as he is now. MARITIME FLEET ... The restoration of our maritime fleet to the position of No. 1 in the world. LAW AND ORDER ... A return to law and order. Action by the Federal Government in its proper role in cooperation with the States and political subdivisions to make it safe to walk on the streets of the cities of our nation, for the curtailment of other criminal activities and 100% support for the law enforcement personnel and firemen of the nation. FEDERAL JUDGES ... The appointment of judges to the Supreme Court who will not decree their own political, social and economic philosophy into court-made law. "'We must take the sting out of inflation by providing jobs for the jobless." WELFARE ... A reasonable welfare program for those who are disabled and blind and handicapped and for the elderly but a curtailment of welfare programs that are designed to pay able-bodied individuals not to work. Immediate programs to improve life in the inner city. Full long range study of environmental economics so that planning will be more realistic. GUN CONTROL ... Opposition to gun control laws. Gun control laws take guns away from the law-abiding citizens and the criminals will have them anyway. FOREIGN AFFAIRS ... Overhauling our foreign policy so that we will end the constant blunders of the last 25 years A policy that would build a "will to resist" among our allies. Negotiations without confrontations but never fall prey to peace at any price."

Reminds me of the same fights I had with the Slick Willardbots in reminding them that the rhetoric didn’t match up with the governing style. He was a populist, opportunist, and fire-breather, but he was no traditional small-government Conservative by any stretch. He told his people what they liked to hear but did his own thing.
Jimmy Carter was a much closer comparison and both served in office at the same time (Carter himself ran as a “Conservative” and race-baiter in the 1970 Dem primary against moderate ex-Governor Carl Sanders. He was a con-man and ended up a VERY liberal leader).

They rationalized to themselves that Wallace was more liberal than Folmar, which was true. Despite Tokyo’s assertations, Wallace was not a Conservative, certainly no Reaganite. Populism is often mistaken for Conservatism. Most populists are really leftists.
An interesting piece of revisionist history, the so-called Southern strategy which was utilized by Nixon in 1972, was an attempt to make a direct appeal to Southern Dem voters while freezing out the extremists on the far left (McGovern) and the populist racist side (Wallace). Both groups, ironically, (far left and populist) swung to Carter in 1976.
Your moniker reminded me of an old Rush song. In reviewing the lyrics it seems especially apt for her speech and our “snowdog” (or bulldog with lipstick from the North)! (I’ll let you figure out who I think By-Tor could be played by!)
