Excerpts: Remarks by Alaska Governor Sarah Palin Vice Presidential Nominee to Address the 2008 Republican National Convention
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - This evening Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican Partys vice presidential nominee, will address the 2008 Republican National Convention. Excerpts from the governors remarks, as prepared for delivery, are below.
On her experience as a public servant:
"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids public education better. When I ran for city council, I didnt need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities."
On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:
"Im not a member of the permanent political establishment. And Ive learned quickly, these past few days, that if youre not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But heres a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: Im not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - Im going to Washington to serve the people of this country."
On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:
"Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of Americas energy problems - as if we all didnt know that already. But the fact that drilling wont solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, were going to lay more pipelines...build more nuclear plants...create jobs with clean coal...and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."
On John McCain:
"Heres how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."
“....Im sorry... Im not getting the community organizer dig. Can some one explain?....”
Prior to running for state office, that is the sum total of Obama’s experience
Your comment was spiteful considering you aren’t a newbie freeper. Why did you even answer if you don’t know the answer, you show boater. I am interested in what time she is speaking also.
That line's a keeper.
Well said, Governor Palin.
Yes! Choice quote. Also:
“Im not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - Im going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”
Sarah Palin is the American Everywoman. EXACTLY what Democrats have been telling women they could be for 40 years. (at least until NOW!)
What has then Left TERRIFIED, and why they MUST destroy her, AND FAST, is that she has the potential to OVERSHADOW Obama.
The Entire Cult of Obama is due to the Media creating CELEBRITY for him. Sarah Palin has the potential to eclipse that, and they know it. The Black Man story is good, but it PALES in comparison to Sarah’s. Imagine how many papers she could sell?
And Obama’s celebrity has started to wear THIN.
You beat me to it with that choice quote. I should have read more first. =]
She could walk out in a bathrobe with slippers and look as though she hadn’t slept, and cry half the time, and people would still back her. We wouldn’t blame her, would we?
Another thread said it was 9:30 central time (10:30 ET, 7:30 PT)
They are going to need lots and lots of ice for their testicles 'cause that's where she is going to kick them.
You mean the same N.O.W. nags that said Obama and the media were “Metapyshicly Gangbanging Hillary!” the day after she lost Iowa??
THOSE NAGS?
Funny how “the Feminists” have been UTTERLY SILENT about the orgy of hatred that the left is spewing at Palin, isn’t it?
what time is she speaking?
another thread said 9:30 central time, but a post here said 9.
I’ll just have the TV on from 7 on here in CA. Guiliani is before her - I don’t think I need to hear him. If he says anything good, it will be reported here tomorrow ;)
I believe that he was leal council for ACORN which is notorious in registering dead voters.
10pm ET
What the....? Did Coulter write this speech?!?! Am I in a dream???
Thank you, John McCain — thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
This woman is a gift from Heaven.
“they’ve probably already written their material before they’ve even heard the speech... “
They probably have crib cards ready in advance and will shuffle through them.
And right. The audience will get to see their ‘unbiased’ reactions.
“i wonder how the media is going to spin it... they won’t say she hit a homerun... they won’t say she knocked it out of the park... they’ll say she’s angry and mean spirited... can’t take the heat... i just know how they’ll respond... they’ve probably already written their material before they’ve even heard the speech...”
Miss Congeniality??!! Oh no, Sarah will know how to insert the knife with a smile! :-)
