This is a FYI: just looked up Hurricane history on Scroogle and found that the only hurricane to pass over the length of Cuba (like Ike is suppose to do) was the Galveston hurricane in 1900.

Galveston was on a path to become the Premier city in the region, the great 1900 storm changed all that and Houston, a safe distance from the Gulf of Mexico, became the great Texas port city instead of Galveston.
