TS Hanna, Hurricane Ike & TS Josephine
NOAA/NHC ^ | 3 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 09/03/2008 2:45:49 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hanna remains a threat to the U.S. Atlantic coast while the storm spent several days stalled and meandering between the Southeast Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and Hispanola. The islands have been battered with winds and torrential rains.

Ike continues to strengthen, reaching hurricane status Wednesday afternoon. The storm continues to move toward the Bahamas and U.S.

Cleanup efforts continued along the Gulf of Mexico states following Hurricane Gustav. Baton Rouge, LA has widespread wind damage and power outages. New Orleans residents were allowed to return to their homes despite Mayor Nagin's reservations amid power outages. President George Bush arrived in Baton Rouge Wednesday to survey the damage from the storm.

The U.S. death toll for Hurricane Gustav is 16, including evacuation casualties and post-storm tornadoes.

Hi, dougherty! Glad you’re back, glad you had a safe trip, and glad you have contingency plans for the next one - the trip to the state park sounds like a nice jaunt, storm or not!

This is a FYI: just looked up Hurricane history on Scroogle and found that the only hurricane to pass over the length of Cuba (like Ike is suppose to do) was the Galveston hurricane in 1900.

The evacuees left from our area yesterday as well. They were cranky about the fact you couldn’t bring beer in to the shelter.
8-)

I don’t know if it has been announced, but they are evacuating residents of the Keys.

"Do it anyway, Nagin, you lump. "

""Our citizens are weary and they're tired and they have spent a lot of money evacuating, some of them, from Gustav.

Here's the part to watch. He'll want you/FEMA to pay for all their evacuation expenses, food, motel and gasoline.

Crist presser is not on any local channels in the Tampa Bay area. Tuned in to FNC for the broadcast.

They are warning those in the Keys to evacuate now. They could be hit by a CAT 3 o4 as there is only about 100 miles distance from the track and it could deviate north at any time. They said later in the week when the storm is in the gulf the steering currents will be weak and the storm will slow down. We all need to prepare ahead of time as though it will come our direction.

I don’t know if the local Red Cross will be asked to house Florida residents or not. Tennessee took over 6000 from New Orleans, and we are ready for them to go home.

How much money does it take to ride a state-chartered bus, stay in a state and Red Cross sponsored shelter, and eat food provided by the Southern Baptists and the Red Cross?

"Beer is a basic hurricane staple."

I agree. Unfortunately for the evacuees.... when you are a guest in someone's house you have to live by their rules. It might make one decide to evacuate oneself next time, instead of depending on the government and a charity.
