Sarah Palin and the Double Standard

Should a mother with five children, one of them a pregnant teen and another an infant with special needs, be running for vice president?

The question is being much debated, in newspaper stories and columns, on blogs and Web sites, and, yes, around kitchen tables across the country.

The punchline...

If she thinks she can do it, if her husband and children support the decision, as they seem to, who are we to say otherwise? She deserves what every father running for office automatically gets: a chance to be judged fairly, based on experience and ideology, qualifications and competence, not our second-hand judgments of her most private decisions.

2 are out of the house

Son in Iraq

Bristol soon to be married

So it’s 3, one of whom is a teen. This is fundamentally the same as the Obama family.

Just to make it clear, I 100% support Palin, and her entry in the race has made me a vocal and monetary supporter of the McCain-Palin ticket.

I think that this piece by Estrich is a solid defense of Gov. Palin’s decision to run...

The better question is whether an empty suit who has never run so much as a pop stand, reads off a teleprompter and had the only two elective offices he's held so far handed to him without a contest be running for president.

If it were a man in this position, nobody would question it. The spouse would be assumed in charge of child care.

Why can’t Todd raise the kids for a bit?

Simple point: Defending Sarah is great, but this is no good unless republicans use it to attack Obama and the democrats. Just defending all this is not a net plus.

There is more than enough available to call the democrats every type of low life name in the book. Sexism is a definite. Harming children another. Pure partisanship. Double standard times ten. Let’s close out the defense half of this inning and step up to the plate on offense.

The democrats are NOT good people, stop treating them politely while they savage good people. That is my advice to the McCain camp.

Susan Estrich supported Hillary Clinton. As you might gueess, she's not happy with the attacks from the Left on Sarah Palin. A lot of other PUMAs are fed up, too!

For this particular questions, whether she should be staying home with the family, it is not the PUMA types per se that we need to worry about convincing. It is the soccer-mom, suburban mom types that have children of their own and think this is a questionable (selfish?) decision by Gov. Palin.

We need to get in front of this perception and answer it. Esp with a very young infant in the family...

Well, if the man were a Democrat. The media are in full on attack mode. They have suddenly realized, just when they thought the man of hope was the hottest guy since the man from Hope, and they put the First Woman President issue to rest, that they didn't put the First Woman President issue to rest.

It is so funny! Hillary can wait 8 years to allow Barak to be the First Black President, then she will have her turn. But then, a conservative woman comes along and OH NO!! We cannot, abso-f'in-lutely cannot, have this woman become the First Woman President! That is reserved for Hillary! So now they have to utterly destroy Sarah Palin, by any means necessary, and no argument left unspoken. It is that important. They are even willing to allow the Achiles' Heel of Barak Obama to be discussed, which is experience. That is the argument against Sarah Palin. Not enough experience. Barak made a trip to Europe and the Middle East last summer. Sarah Palin was only the governor of an insignificant state. That makes Barak Obama the better choice. Hahahahaha!

The Democrats are scared. They are frikkin' SCARED.

How do you think Estrich's column would read had Obama chosen a married woman with young kids? My guess is that a liberal b*tch like Estrich have fallen all over herself extolling the virtues of managing motherhood and a career at the same time.

Screw liberals!

Except that Michelle Obama has been working full time, while Mr. Palin went to part-time at BP a few years ago (I assume around the time his wife was elected governor)

The latter shows a lot more responsibility towards their children. Nobody is mentioning THAT! (Because the MSM loves day care, nannies, and government brain-washing preschools!)

There is another point I have not seen posted anywhere. Baby Trig may have many more educational services available to him in Washington DC than he would in Wasilla, Alaska. This could help him maximize his potential and lead to a better life overall.
