PA10 encouraging. Chance for a pickup. But losses looming in NM (Heather Wilson's seat) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart's seat. Overall, not good. Probably more House seats lost.

McCain coat tails have yet to be factored in.

My guess is that a LOT of Pubbie house candidates are going to want Sarah Palin to come to their districts.

The Media knows this as well. Sara will have long...skirtails?

McCain won’t have any “coattails.” Bush didn’t in 2000, or in 2004, and McCain is running AWAY from Republicans. As Bill Kristol said of the convetion last night, you could barely tell it was “Republican.” There were few references to the “brand” Republican, and McCain cannot both run “against” Washington and “with” Washington at the same time.

That’s better news in MN-3 than I expected, given the hype that Madia’s gotten. And that should be Erik Paulsen, not Derek.

Trailing by two points in one August poll is a looming loss? Uh, no.

I guess you and Bill saw a different convention than me. I saw one with a featured speech by GOP President Bush and the current GOP First Lady. I saw tributes to Republican Presidents George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Teddy Roosevelt. I saw the crowd go nuts when GHW and Barbara Bush arrived in the center, so much so that they delayed the St. Paul fire chief's speech (I think that was her title). I saw Fred Thompson go after liberal Obama, liberals in general, and the unpopular, do nothing Democrat Congress.

Bush sure did in 2002. It was historical.

I think you mean Palin’s coat-tails. McCain pretty much has none for Conservatives.

McCain coat tails have yet to be factored in.

What coat-tails? McCain has been campaigning as the un-Republican, campaigning against his party. Why would you expect him to yield Republican coat-tails?

If he wins, he'll win with the support of moderate Dems appalled by Obama. They'll probably go home for Senate and House candidates.

Better than I expected. Better than it was a few weeks ago.

I can’t imagine why anyone would concede losing more House seats at this point. Almost seems like an attempt to demoralize.

I agree McCain would not have had any coat ttails, but I think Palin WILL~!

I am counting on HER to run next for Pres. and I want to make darn sure she has a republican congress

And NOT RINO’s (like Newt got...)

We’re doomed!

Beware of people telling us how screwed we are in the House based on August polling numbers. Pick a couple of races, give them some money and fight on. To hell with this defeatist mentality.

Me neither. We have a newly energized base during an anti-incumbent (NOT an anti-GOP) year. I view this as an opportunity.

I agree, they probably will.

Why would you expect [McCain] to yield Republican coat-tails?

Because he has moved to re-energize the conservative base, especially with the Palin pick. And he's done a pretty darned good job of it (as shown by raising $10 million in under 72 hours).

Will he have GOP coattails? I don't know.
Could he? Of course.

It absolutely is an opportunity. The democrat controlled House has an 11% approval rating and the base is finally rallying around the presidential ticket. We’d have to be insane to concede anything at this point.

If McCain can pull out the win, a good coattail performance for him and Palin would be the status quo in the House and no more than five losses in
the Senate. Gridlock is not necessarily a bad thing in Congress.

If McCain - Palin win ‘08, Palin - Jindal ‘12.

If McCain - Palin lose ‘08, Jindal - Palin ‘12.
