[Full Metal Jacket actor Matthew] Modine: McCain was a bad P.O.W.!

We ran into actor Matthew Modine (remember "Full Metal Jacket"?!?) at Denver's La Rumba restaurant and, while the Obama supporter had plenty to say about John McCain's policies, he also had plenty of critiques of McCain's military service -- a topic that almost no one dares denounce.

"I mean, he got shot down three times!" said Modine, taking on one of McCain's most lauded personal accomplishments. "That's not success!" While on a bombing mission over North Vietnam, McCain was shot down and held as a prisoner of war. When McCain's father was named commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam, the future Arizona senator was offered an early release, but rejected it because his captors would not also released his fellow American P.O.W.s.

That kind of loyalty has earned McCain endless accolades, but Modine thinks that McCain's rejection of the release offer is yet another example of McCain's shortcomings. "And he wasn't even a good prisoner of war," said Modine. "He should have left as soon as he could. That's what you're supposed to do as a prisoner of war: Leave when you can. It defeats the enemy. It makes them look bad and it weakens them."

"Birdy"

[which was an excellent movie in spite of Modine...and most because of Nick Cage]

“Meanwhile, Modine’s had 20 years of bombs at the box office.”

Lol! I guess that makes him a war veteran! Well, at least in his liberally demented mind it does.

After hearing the details of John McCain being shot down during Fred Thompson's speech last night, how this POS could even DARE to speak these words....I'm speechless.

It's shocking how disrespectful some people can be.

And through sheer courage and intestinal fortitude, *survived* all three times.

How ‘bout Modine?

Think he’d have the necessary sand?

That's what you're supposed to do as a prisoner of war

Could someone please help me? I've forgotten which of the military academies Mr. Modine was a graduate.

I hope he is invited to FOX News to repeat his comments. I think we need to give this guy a big microphone. I want everyone to hear this.

I don't remember this guy.

Did he play one of the cute little robots in Star Wars?

I forgot that one.
The last scene in the movie was great.

Too bad.

The media has apparently been rummaging through the long list of washed up brain dead actors looking for some idiotic slander about Super-Hero McCain. They found this no-name fool.

Matthew Modine should refrain from political analysis and continue burnishing his legacy with high-quality films like Cutthroat Island and Transporter 2.

“...he got shot down three times!” said Modine, taking on one of McCain’s most lauded personal accomplishments. “That’s not success!”

On the contrary. Captain John S. McCain III very skillfully piloted his aircraft directly into a barrage arising from below, not once but THREE times, and in two of them, managed to scramble out of harm’s way (mostly) and return to his squadron. The last time was a little tougher, as he had to deal with some rather extreme ruffians for several years before he could make it back.

But he made it back.

Modine is not fit to clean Super-Hero McCain’s toilet.
