The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Barack Obama attracting 48% of the vote while John McCain earns 43%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 50%, McCain 45%.

Both Obama and McCain lost a little ground in the polls after announcing their Vice President running mate. Obama lost three points after the Joe Biden selection was announced and McCain lost two points after Palin was announced.

Obama then enjoyed a fairly typical bounce from his convention and it remains to be seen how what kind of bounce McCain will get.

Fifty-two percent (52%) of Americans have a favorable opinion of Palin.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that Monday's supposedly "bad day" for McCain could simply be a bad sample? Polls are only considered 95% accurate when perfectly conducted.

I'm sorry, but the campaign raising $10 million in three days (over a holiday weekend) carries FAR more weight with me than some post-convention polls. Unless the election is being held this week, they simply do not matter.

It’s not that removed from reality. Bush had 50.7% of the popular vote, but he had 53.1 % of the electoral college. Where the voters are located matters greatly.

Sorry..I didn’t not read ROT’s post properly (SEE POST #22). She was citing two examples of past elections; the race in 1992 and the one in 2000.

Anyway, W did win regardless of their dirty tricks with the DUI the weekend before the election.
Also, in 1992 the elder Bush had Perot in the race sucking 19% of his voters away. At least I think most Perot voters were people angry at Bush for raising taxes when he said he wouldn’t, and there was a recession at the time.

Good to see Obambi's lead didn't grow further.

Tonight is a huge night. I think most agree Palin was a "big risk / big reward" kind of pick. So far, Palin's impact on the ticket has been slightly negative because of the hit job by the RATs and the MSM.

If she does well tonight, and I think she will, then we will see the "big reward" start to pay off.

just wait a week after sarah palin and McCain favorables go thru the roof.

McCain should fight back IMMEDIATELY by putting Gov. Sarah Palin on several campaign TV and radio commercials touting her excellent qualities.

First, THAT would put to rest these dipwad lib media types who claim that Palin will quit.

Secondly, it would immediately introduce the tough and effective Sarah Palin to millions of people who don't watch political conventions.

Gov. Palin has so many excellent qualities it's hard to know which one to feature in the ad.

Her tough handling of the Alaska budget?

The fact that she fights corruption vigorously?

Her avid stances in favor of children and life?

Sarah Palin is so fabulous, it makes me want to move to Alaska and see if she has any long lost sisters.

You might also try posting it as a standalone vanity post here on Free Republic. That way people will see it who aren’t digging through all of these other posts.

Republicans don't often get much of a bounce from their conventions. I have no idea why not nor am I much worried about it. What Republicans do in September. October and Novemeber is the vetting of the Democrat candidate that the MSM won't do. McCain and 527's will drive up Obamas negatives by focusing on his inexperience, his relationship with a known terrorist Bill Ayers, his attendance for 20 years at Reverned Wrights hatefest and his opposition to protecting babies who survive abortions in law.

Will it be enough? Maybe, maybe not but at least the truth will out and perhaps we haven't hit the breaking point in AMerica yet where 50+% of Americans don't pay taxes and don't know which way is up.

The GOP almost always performs better in the electoral college than they do in the popular vote totals. The main reason is because they have traditionally cleaned up in the EV rich Southern states, and have won the small Mountain states (that have a high proportion of EVs to actual voters) consistently as well.

If McCain wins the popular vote this time, he almost assuredly wins the POTUS as well.

a picture of the electoral map was virtually all red.

That is WAY removed from reality.

Dubya won every state in 2004!! Except NY, MA, NH, ME, CA, IL, WI, MN, NJ, VT, RI, DE, MD...

I can think of ten million tangible reasons to argue with you, along with a ton of intangibles (an excited base).

It would also be a weekend poll.

Republicans out doing something with the family, Democrats home boozing it up, waiting for that text message from Barry.

Slightly negative in the polls, I mean.

I am thrilled with her as a candidate.

Nothing could be further from the truth. $10 million raised in a couple of days, the base on fire, volunteers mobbing field offices,...
