Obama playing this ad is doing it at his own peril:

Poll: Pro-Life Democrats Abandoning Barack Obama as Abortion View Exposed

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor
August 27, 2008Washington,

DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new Gallup poll finds pro-life Democrats are abandoning Barack Obama now that more evidence has been presented that Obama takes a hardcore pro-abortion position. The drop in his support from pro-life Democrats also comes as John McCain has been more active promoting his pro-life views.

As the election draws closer and more voters are paying attention to it and learning where the candidates states, a Gallup poll finds pro-life Democrats are less inclined to support Obama.

The Gallup survey shows Democrats who say they are conservative on issues like abortion supported Obama at a 72 percentage point clip in mid-July.

Now, that level of support has fallen to just 63 percent -- dropping steadily since then during a time Obama has come under fire nationally for his opposition to a bill to provide medical care for newborns who survive abortion.

Obama has lost 5 percentage points with pro-life Democrats in the last few days alone as McCain has bashed him for opposing the anti-infanticide bill and Obama hurt his own case further by picking pro-abortion Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate.

Polls have shown Obama struggling to maintain his Democratic base compared with McCain's ability to attract Republicans and Gallup said his standing with pro-life Democrats is the reason why.

"According to weekly averages of Gallup Poll Daily tracking, the problem seems to be with conservative Democrats," Gallup said in a statement LifeNews.com obtained Wednesday.

'Within the Democratic Party, Obama's losses are primarily evident among the relatively small group that describes its political views as conservative," it explained. "The 63% of conservative Democrats supporting Obama over McCain in Aug. 18-24 polling is the lowest Obama has earned since he clinched the Democratic nomination in June."

As more Republicans learn about the presidential abortion divide, they are also heading to McCain and abandoning Obama.

Gallup said Obama had the backing of 11 percent of Republicans in July but that has fallen to seven percent now.

The slide among pro-life Democrats coincides with Gallup's survey of all voters showing John McCain picking up support.

Unfortunately, I think this will help him stop some of the bleeding. I'm pro-life and I've had the discussion with several women over the years. I know many otherwise conservative women whom would consider a pro-life stance a deal-breaker.

If you ask people whether they are pro-life or pro-choice, or ask them if abortion should be completely banned, the numbers lean heavily pro-choice. These are the ones the Dems cite.

Problem is, if you allow any nuance into the surveys (such as asking what reasons for an abortion are OK, or asking about government funding or restrictions on abortion) people are overwhelmingly hostile to abortion on demand.

This will backfire. Their view of women is so simplistic that they think they can yell “Boo!” over abortion and women will suddenly march to the polling booth and pull the lever for The One like good little Stepford wives, ignoring the shabby way he’s treated them and all the good stuff about Palin. You can already see that they’ve got their talking points out; every surrogate that is asked about Palin talks about how “anti-choice” she is.

But almost no one supports partial birth abortion, and almost everyone supports born-alive infant protection, except for Obama. He will get clobbered on this issue.

Someone point this out to Obama in public and ask why he is pro-abortion.

Hussein voted and argued against a law that would require life saving medical care to infants that had survived a murder attempt.

That is all that need be said.

It depends on how the question is framed. If the question is asked, ‘Do you belueve in a women’s right to choose?’ The slight majority of people say that they believe in it.

“If the question is asked asked about “a specific abortion procedure known as ‘late-term’ abortion or ‘partial-birth’ abortion, which is sometimes performed on women during the last few months of pregnancy.” By 68 percent to 25 percent, the public thought that such a procedure should be illegal.”

“The problem for the Democratic party is that Americans do not support women’s right absolute to choose abortion in all circumstances, at any stage of pregnancy and without any restrictions.”

The ad they need to run, which would be a real shocker, granted, is a picture of several live babies, injured by the abortion attempt against them, lying on a shelf, seemingly destined to die of neglect, when one crawls away, grabs a pair of giant forceps and sneaks up behind his holiness and pins his dumbo ears and then manages to make a crushing strangle hold.

(O.K., sort of a takeoff from that old movie short where a guy fishing on the shore sees a sandwich and as he tries to grab it, it has a line on it and pulls him into the sea.)

Democratic Platform: PRO-Abortion (for years) NO change!

“The platform hasn’t changed, but the posture toward those who disagree with it has. Since election setbacks in 2004, the new Democratic chairman, Howard Dean, and 2008 presidential prospect Hillary Rodham Clinton are among those who argue that Democrats have to do more to reach out to those who oppose abortion.

Almost no one suggests that either party is likely to change its absolutist stance on abortion. But some strategists and officeholders, particularly among Democrats, say the tone and approach ought to be adjusted to acknowledge the ambivalence most Americans feel.”
