Las Vegas girl recovering from python attack

A local girl is recovering after being attacked by her own pet, a Burmese python. The father says he was forced to kill the snake to save his daughter. The family says they never imagined the pet they loved would attack.

While they didn't want their faces shown, they told News 3 they're coming forward to remind others about the possible dangers.

"She was wrapped around my ribs and every time I moved she'd squeeze them tighter so I couldn't breathe," 13-year-old Katherine said.

Katherine's uncle and father came to her rescue. "As I was untangling, it was wrapping around me and her both; it had my feet tied together," Katherine's uncle said.

The python was at about 15 feet long and weighed in at 40 lbs with plenty of sharp teeth. The Burmese python wasn't budging. "Stuck my hand between mouth and leg where the snake had a bite, wouldn't come off, grabbed a knife, cut the snake's head," dad explains.

The family says they kept their pet python of four years, named Victoria, in a large tank with locks. Victoria broke out and slithered her way into Katherine's room. "I'm just glad they were there because I don't know what I would have done if I was there by myself," Katherine said.

Having survived this ordeal the family now says they've learned a valuable lesson. "If you got children in the house, you shouldn't have them," Katherine's father said. "If you have one of your own, pay attention."

The attack happened early Saturday morning, the same day as a similar attack at a zoo in Venezuela. A student zookeeper there was bitten and then crushed to death by a ten foot Burmese Python who then tried to swallow the man.

I couldn’t do it. I wouldn’t want to see a little rat or rabbit get eaten. My brother has a tarantula—she’s not too bad. She just eats crickets. My son keeps a praying mantis—the mantis likes crickets too.

Idiots! Reptiles are not affectionate like puppy dogs. Think of it as Putin or John Kerry in scales.

Inside that snakes skull is a brain small as a thimble.

Imagine that, owning a python and getting attacked by it.

I would have never seen that coming. I thought that snakes have been domesticated for 1000 years by now.

Years ago I was stationed in Buenos Aires. One of the Marines from the Guard Detachment kept his pet python in his room at the Marine House. Once a week, this guy had to go to pet shop around the corner and buy a 6-pack of gerbils to feed the brute. His fellow Marines were less than enthralled by this guy’s pet.

Not a heck of a lot of difference between a Liberal and a dangerous animal. I never thought I would be called racist if I didn't vote for an unqualified candidate, nor did I ever dream Sarah would be attacked with sexist remarks. As Rush says: "They can't help themselves because they are who they are".

When they start to reach maturity, Burmese pythons should be released into the Everglades. This is so they can keep the alligator population under control. They also may be released into the custody of pest control companies, who turn them loose under mobile homes throughout the state.

Wanton slaughter of these snakes also deprives the FL MSM of about 30 percent of its content. OTOH, what happens in Vegas etc. etc.

People who have wild animals as pets take that risk, it’s the nature of the beast....

Big snake pets, tattoos

I always wondered how those big snakes got the cool patterns! Thanks!

However, I would not advise trying piercing pit bulls
