Cafferty pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, assault and harassment after striking a cyclist and knocking him off his bike on May 14, 2003. Yes, he was at WNBC and his co-anchor was, I believe, Sue Simmons. I also remember one evening Liz Smith, the gossip columnist, who, after giving her nightly report, went on to plead with an anchor person who was "heavily into cocaine" and who "needs help" Said Liz, "you know who you are". We all assumed it was Cafferty - he had a bizarre, wild look about him, even then, and an unmistakable nasal quality to his voice.
