Almost three thousand British troops in southern Afghanistan have successfully transported a huge hydroelectric power turbine through Taleban territory.

In one of their biggest operations in Helmand, a convoy of 100 vehicles took five days to move the massive sections of the turbine 180km (112 miles).

The $6m (£3.4m) turbine will produce electricity for an extra 1.9m people.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the operation was a reminder of Nato's "fundamental purpose" in Afghanistan.

The operation to increase the output of the Kajaki dam in southern Afghanistan is part of a development project which has been planned for two years.

A very succesful operation where the Talibs were outthought and outfought on what they thought was their own turf.

God bless Her Majesty’s armed forces. Probably the only public institution in Britain that can still do what it’s meant to do..

You’d think the definition of a “Taliban-controlled area” would mean that the British couldn’t casually move a thirty-ton turbine through it, killing 200 fanatic warriors like so much evil-smelling roadkill.

But apparently not!

I have wondered why we have heard little from our forces over the last few months. It seems that the Americans took over some general duties in Helmand to allow 2000 of our Para’s to conduct this stunning operation.

Who said we Brits can’t fight?!!!

We have had many people who have said we can’t fight, Napoleon, The Kaiser, Hitler and more.

The more they are proved wrong the more people say we are finished :)

Sometimes being underestimated is a strength :)
