I agree. Attacking this, not a “young woman”, but a child, at obviously one of the most vulnerable times in her life is unconscionable. Politics is a brutal sport and not for the faint of heart in any case, but this IS a new low, even for the left. I don't like it, but it is inevitable, and voters have to make a choice. I, like you, doubt ANY Dem Presidential candidate could pass the litmus test demanded of Republican candidates.

Indeed, if the pregnancy of a 17 year old child is all the Dems have, they are going to be toast. Frankly, I was more concerned by the under-aged drinking depicted in the photos than anything concerning pregnancy. I am certain Rush, et al, will have much to say about these personal smears of a child who could be any American's daughter.

(Several years ago the police in my little town pressed charges against parents who hosted a underage drinking party for their youngster. Another parent, whose child was depicted drinking on the host's MySpace page, were the ones who gave police the photos and insisted charges be brought.)

The pictures aren’t from Bristol’s myspace page. They are from the sister of her boyfriend’s myspace page. This is the same myspace page that people where using all day to figure out who the boyfriend was. However, the losers running this website didn’t check their lead enough to figure that out. I really hope they are sued for libel.

As far as the thinking that As for McCain's motives, it was not something he was trying to sweep this under the rug. Far from it. There were other things to of concern. First of concern was the hurricane. Hurricane Gustav. Why should the Republicans have their festive Convention when people are suffering in the Gulf? McCain was thinking about the hurricane. He ordered the Convention scaled down and his wife called for Americans to rally together to help those affected by the storm.

As for Bristol's pregnancy, no biggy. The Palin family will deal with it with strength and sensitivity. Why should everyone have a cow over it? No family is perfect. Joe Biden’s family is one. Obama was conceived out of wedlock. John Edwards had an extra marital affair. Shall we go on?

It is of course, no reason to kick Sarah Palin under the bus. As I asked before, should we now denigrate the mothers of daughters who make biological mistakes?

Yes I understand and I do consider the sources, but that doesn’t mean that they are always to be dismissed out of hand. The Enquirer is hardly the go-to source for reliable news, yet they’ve gotten some great scoops. In the eyes of the DUmmies, Hannity was seen as a kook and an enemy when he kept harping on Obama’s Wright and Ayers connections, but to their chagrin they turned out to be true and powerful stories.

My point is simply that your enemy is much better at digging dirt about you than your friends, so if dirt is an issue you may want to pay attention to what they got.

Most of the time I ignore what DU and its ilk have to say, but in this case there is just too much “smoke”.

Be honest with yourself - do you really think the McCain team did a responsible job of vetting Palin, if at all?

Yes, having been a Sarah Palin admirer for a long time, I was very pleased when McCain chose her. In fact, I haven't spoken to anyone who has been displeased with the choice, even AFTER this story about her daughter came out. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, is pleased.

Who would you have had McCain choose? Lieberman? A man more than just liberal on social issues? Romney? Worthy, but certainly bearing his own baggage. As far as I've been able to deduce, every single person McCain would have chosen has SOME problem to be overcome. In comparison, Sarah's seem small.
