If this neighborhood gets destroyed again, it’s time to abandon ship and build elsewhere. The area should be condemned as to housing and fitted out as recreation/flood plain area. I don’t live in Louisiana and have never been there and I’m sorry if people lose their homes and neighborhood but it’s time to admit we can’t beat the ocean, the Mississippi and hurricanes combined.

Deputy saying it has not been breached, but is being overtopped and they are working on it.

READY...FIRE...AIMIt's a private levee, not one maintained by the Corps of Engineers.

Based on the replies you’re getting, you probably should ask the mods to change your title.

Near Scarsdale, don’t know yet if it’s river or canal, their calling it a back levee whatever that means, said water is flowing into a neighberhood.

The levee was built by NaginCO! One of the finest levee builders in the USA!

The local Levee Boards run them. These overly powerful corrupt entities were supposed to be cleaned up after Katrina but I never heard a word if that happened.

Reporter saying water coming out of a river diversion thing, through the concrete wall.

It is a private leveenot federal
If not COE I stand corrected. However, for anyone there locally, who inspects
those local levees? I'd like to see copies of the inspection reports.

Thanks for the great link.
At what point does America ask itself if it is wise to maintain a major city below sea level in hurricane country?

thats in Plaquemines Parish, not NO. Its a local levee, and it sucks for the 100-200 people who will be flooded, but this was somewhat expected and doesnt have any wider implications beyond the immediate area. They flooded during Katrina ... rebuilt their PRIVATE levee and then rebuilt their homes.
Looks like their calculated risk didn't pay off ... sure hope they don't expect fedzilla to bail them out again.

Thanks, went to google maps and typed it in using ‘terrain’ you can see the individual levees. (Away from river).

Agreed. The Fed’s should not allow it to be a residential area.

So far river toping not a break, civilians and millitary supporting the levee.
