Dr. James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family issued the following statement:
"In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.
"Being a Christian does not mean you're perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I've been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I'm sure the Palins have.
"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."

Important statement by Dr. Dobson, so... BTTT.
Matthew 1:18-20
18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Hard to believe anyone in America has never heard of Dr. Dobson. He is a licensed child psychologist and Christian who started a ministry called Focus on the Family about 30 years ago. He is not a pastor or minister, but focuses on helping people live and raise their families by Christian principles. He has a number of best-selling books on child-rearing. He is also considered an influential voice in the evangelical Christian community.
That says it all.
"The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a 'hypocrite,' but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans."
Perfectly stated!
Such a beautiful picture! : )
Reminds of the efforts in 2000 and 2004 to turn the evangelical right against Bush and Cheney...witness the leak of W's DUI right before the 2000 election, and the mention by both Lurch and the Breck Girl of Cheney's daughter Mary in the debates.
Guess it didn't work!
Nicely put. Thanks for posting this.
The fact that Dobson and his people did a poor job vetting Palin isnt going to sit well in the real Christian conservative community."
What????? Your comments are despicable, non-sensical, and crude. Why should her daughter's pregnancy, stop Palin from being VP? The only reason it's a problem (if it indeed is one) is because of people like you! And incidentally, you're the one who sounds like someone from DU!
First off, Dobson attacked conservative Fred Thompson, questioned his Christian faith and worked to undermine his candidacy for POTUS.
And Dobson has castigated John McCain and trashed him as unfit to be POTUS for a variety of reasons.
Now all of a sudden, Dobson condones unwed teen pregnancy. HYPOCRITE!!!
Contrast with Obama, who supports partial birth abortion, the murder by neglect of infants born alive during an abortion, the idea that a baby, his precious grandchild, could ever be a 'punishment,' and Biden who claims the oxymoronic appellation 'pro-choice Catholic.'
The contrasts could NOT be more clear-cut. Choose LIFE or choose DEATH.
Please. All in good time.
Perfect. Well said, Dr. Dobson.
A really a nasty piece of business you're engaging in. To twist Dobson's statement into an endorsement of unwed teen pregnancy is a gross slander of Dr. Dobson. Get a hold of yourself, man.
Dobson trashing Fred was a nasty piece too.
I’ve lost respect for Dobson.
I have far less problem with Palin’s daughter, who exercised poor judgment with her boyfriend, than I do with Dobson himself.
It is one thing to forgive (we are all sinners). But what does it say when the leader of a prominent pro-family organization has no comment about the lack of traditional family structure in our society? Teen drug use, drug abuse and pregnancy are symptoms of the destruction of the family. It isn’t consistent to promote traditional Biblical family structure and at the same time give a pass to a Republican VP nominee who has apparently chosen to have a career. And I say this as someone who is a fan of many things that Mrs. Palin claims to stand for.
Dobson has once again allowed political pragmatism to undermine his legitimacy as a Christian leader. He is a hypocrite.
Nonsense. Read the original post again. Or don’t bother, you’ve obviously already made up your mind before reading it the first time.
Not exactly the best venue to talk about a ‘lack of family structure’, given that the Palins do have a traditional family: dad who works (while having time for his family and other leisurely activities), mother who also works (whilst still having time for her family and other leisurely activities), and children (the oldest now serving in the military, with the oldest daughter now about to start a family of her own, with the support of her parents, and the other three children).
I could see your point if Sarah Palin had absolutely nothing to do in her family life, sacrificing all of the time for public office...but that’s not the case. By a long shot.
To try and infer that Dr. Dobson supports teenage pregnancy and doesn’t support traditional families from this statement is silly. He’s praising the Palins for doing the right thing in a tough situation.
“mother who also works (whilst still having time for her family and other leisurely activities)”
I didn’t intend for my post to be about Mrs. Palin, but since you brought it up, we obviously have different definitions of “traditional family” if you believe that it is traditional for a married mother to have any other PRIMARY focus than the raising of her family.
I did read it again, and I stand by my post.
