A Liberals Lament
To win, Obama must convince the country that he is a man of substance, not just style. History suggests this won't be easy.

In an editorial published August 23, 2008, for the Newsweek edition dated September 1, 2008, Princeton University professor of history Sean Wilentz anticipates Obama's upcoming (as of the time he wrote) acceptance speech at the Democrat National Convention.
The piece ends stating:
On these fundamental questions may hang the fate of Obama's candidacy. In the absence of a compelling record, set speeches, even with the most stirring words, will not resolve these matters. And until he resolves them, Obama will remain the most unformed candidate in the modern history of presidential politics.

Obama must convince the country that he is a man of substance, not just style. History suggests this won't be easy. It won't be easy because he ISN'T a man of substance...so he's got to pull out all the standard dem tricks to sell yet another "big lie".

Wow, and from a Drive-By source, too. As several of us said a few weeks back, Barry stumbled into several jump-the-shark moments and is in near free fall. Looks like he is in full free fall and he can't depend on “Plugs” to have pre-packed a viable parachute.

Hard to convince voters you have substance when you clearly do not. This is illustrated by the selection of Sarah Palin. The Dems can try to attack her for her supposed lack of experience, but the bottom line is that she is a heck of a lot more qualified than the Democrat presidential nominee. The irony is that when the D’s make the experience argument for Palin it boomerangs on their own candidate.

Princeton historian Sean Wilentz is one of the Clinton campaign's political henchmen. |
That image caption "one of Clinton ... henchmen" is from the web posting
Thug Life on the Campaign Trail dated April 9, 2008.
With friends like the Clinton's and their henchmen, Obama needs not more enemies.

That is who Obama can never be because to be honest about liberalism would mean the end of his presidential hopes. The only way liberals can be competitive is by lying about who they are. Being honest would in all likelihood, consign the Democrats to the same fate as the Greens and the Socialists.

Demoncrats do not understand what family really means. Oh, that you gain the whole world, but lose your life. Sarah Palin has more qualifications than most in government, she has reared children and teenagers.

Amazing. Not even a week after the DemCon and the Clintons and their MSM lackey (Clift) are undermining Obama.
To: ThePythonicCow
Very interesting and very likely the Liberal Media will splinter after the way Hillary Clinton was mistreated by Obama. She has her allies and they have sharpened their knives. Obama may have peaked at the DNC convention.

Obama must convince the country that he’s a man. Period.
See tagline.

I’ve printed out the article for a careful read but let me opine before doing so...
This is a bright professor knowing how his party has been duped. He saw it in spades at the Demo convention. And now he wants to get out in front — get in on the record — that he knew this guy was an empty suit before the debacle. Or he’s warning that if the empty suit doesn’t show some substance RIGHT NOW, he will still face that debacle fate.
Either way, this is your not-so-typical liberal wanting to have it both ways: “I warned you before the disaster” and/or “I told him what he would have to do to avoid the disaster”. This way, Sean Wilentz can say he was right.

This article was written a week ago, before the convention, and its author, Sean Wilentz, has apparently been a serious Clinton supporter (a "Hillaroid" ?) for a while.
You may be right that he's trying to have both ways; but I suspect he's also doing his part to keep the top of the Democrat ticket slot open, for Hillary, in 2012.

Demoncrats do not understand what family really means. Oh, that you gain the whole world, but lose your life.Boy, does that resonate ! Mother and grandmother here, still deeply in the Servant-mode.
Exasperating, but still my choice.
You are a wise man.
