I think your mistake was thinking that the positions were dogmatic and not pragmatic.
Most people accept that fact that despite our wants and wishes, life does not always turn out as planned. This does not change our wants and wishes or what we think is right and wrong...but it does impact how we deal with the reality of individual situations after they occur.

What do you want us to do crucify the mother for the actions of her daughter or have the mother disown her daughter. None of us are arguing that teen pregnancy is good its just that you have to react with love not condemnation.
