KIEV, Ukraine With Russian troops stationed deep in Georgia, fears run high that Ukraine may be the next victim of a Kremlin drive to reclaim dominance in the former Soviet Union.
Many here believe Moscow has its sights on Ukraine's strategic Crimea peninsula on the Black Sea - once a jewel of Russia's empire.
Officials both here and in the West worry how far Russia might go to stop Ukraine's drive to join NATO and to regain control of Crimea.

I’ve come across Russian posters talking about how horrible Ukraine’s president is and how he’s starving the people.
Yea....Ukraine is definitely losing some territory to Russia.
I’ve never understood why the Ukrainians don’t seem to stand up to the Russians.
What has the Ukraine received from Russia? Artificial famine, genocide, the outlawing of the Ukrainian language, and, more recently, an attempt to assassinate Viktor Yushenko so that a Kremlin puppet could be installed as president.
Russia has given them nothing but oppression, and very few times have the Ukrainians stood up to it.
I just don’t understand why.
Don’t worry, the Free Republic Russian Lobby (FRRL) will be along in a minute to tell us all how this is Russia’s right, because it’s in their backyard.
We need to make sure all of these countries are getting enough intelligence and war materiel to render important parts on Ivan’s lower half from his body.
Because, historically nobody has helped them against Russian aggression. It’s akin to a rape victim not resisting so that maybe the rapist will go easier on her.
Ukraine is flat as Kansas really easy to invade and has no natural boundaries. If you study military history at all it has been invaded and taken and retaken over the years many times. It is the breadbasket. It should be worried. Poland os course is next.
