On Friday evening, President and Mrs. Bush attended Evening Parade at the Marine Barracks in Washington.

On Saturday, President Bush delivered his weekly radio address. The address once again focused on the economy and is reprinted in full further down.

On Saturday, President Bush phoned the governors of TX, LA and MS to discuss the impending storms that are expected to strike their areas as a result of Hurricane Gustav.

Hi Kas, I was wondering the same thing about the Dose pings and also under the dose icon nothing shows up for the entire week. I missed a few Dose threads and guess I will have to be creative in hunting them down.

If you don’t mind I don’t want any toaster until this hurricane is over. I’m not real interested in celebrating until I know everyone is safe. Thanks.

Thanks for the weekend Dose, daisy! Prayers for all in the path of this monster storm .. just devastating destruction.

Pres. Bush made the right decision about the convention. Priorities. I wouldn’t be sad if the convention was cancelled, in light of this incoming catastrophe = priorities.

Snugs — you’ll LOVE this if you haven’t seen it. And you, and those of us who noticed, were right!

DICK Cheney is shrinking. The lame-duck veep was seen at Tyson’s Corner Nordstrom in Virginia last week buying five Hickey Freeman suits off the rack. “They were size-44 regular,” a source tells us. “Cheney was a 48 regular a year ago, which is a 40-pound drop.

I guess he’s been on a diet.” For the record, the suits were two-button single-breasted, hand-crafted in upstate Rochester from 100 percent Tasmanian wool. Meanwhile, the suit Barack Obama wore last night was a union-made Hartmarx stitched in his hometown of Chicago, according to WWD.

Yes, we need lots of prayers for the safety of all in the path of the hurricane. Hoping and praying everyone is prepared and evacuated and that the storm loses intensity.

Exactly...maybe they can shorten it to a one day thing at the end of the week just to officially nominate McCain/Palin.

I am so pleased to read about VP Cheney losing weight. I hope this helps him enjoy good health in his upcoming retirement.

I think Chesty is pretty cool, too. And what a great tribute to the original Chesty to have a namesake.

“President Bush, first lady Laura Bush, Vice President Cheney and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger all canceled Monday appearances. Bush is likely to address the nation, instead, if killer Gustav does not veer off its path toward the Gulf Coast.

Convention planners said McCain hopes to show up later in the week to accept his party’s nomination, but there was no guarantee of it, and he is not required to be in the hall for the nomination to be official.

Officials said they will execute “certain basic minimum requirements” of party rules, including receiving the report of the credentials committee, adopting rules and the party platform and electing officials of the convention.

The convention will be called to order at the scheduled opening of 3 p.m. local time and last until about 5 or 5:30 p.m. before adjourning.

“What will be missing will be any kind of political rhetoric,” McCain campaign manager Rick Davis said.

Davis said the convention will be decided day to day, with delegates notified by e-mail and text message. Davis said the convention hopes to conduct a roll call, but doesn’t know when that will be.

“We will try to constitute as much of a program as events allow us to,” Davis said. “Everything will be considered optional after the 5:30 session tomorrow.”

McCain said he “can hardly wait” to get to St. Paul. “I hope and pray we’ll be able to resume some of our normal operations as quickly as possible,” he said. “But some of that is, frankly, in the hands of God.”

During the week, the delegates will work to raise money for charities that operate in the Gulf Coast region, Davis said.”
