California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is skipping the Republican National Convention this week in Minnesota to manage an ongoing budget dispute in Sacramento. Republican officials say Fred Thompson will take his place in the prime-time lineup Monday night and onetime presidential candidate will have nearly three times longer to speak than he was originally given for his speech on Tuesday.
Schwarzenegger hinted that he might skip the convention at a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "The work for the people of California, and to solve this budget problem, is the most important thing right now for me," he said.
Thompson, who is launching a new political action committee -- FredPAC -- in conjunction with the start of the convention, will now have twenty minutes to speak rather than seven. Other speakers Monday night include Vice President Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush.

We will all be broken hearted. LOL
ping
He ceased being a Republican a long time ago.
Go Fred! Wish to hell you were on the ticket. Stay in California Arnie. Your RINO ways have failed, and you’ve got to fix the budget mess you created. Otherwise, it’s time for us to do to you what we did to Gray Davis.
Man I wish it was Thompson/Palin.
Chicken-Liver! He’s just a hyper-RINO...no need for him to show up!
Arnold’s way os saying he now supports Obama. I guess he really hates drilling that much.
Works for me.
Republican officials say Fred Thompson will take his [Arnie’s] place in the prime-time lineup Monday night.
Man, the news just gets better and better!
LOL! I am pleased it will be Thompson instead of the Governator. It is only right he does stay with the budget in principle....although....it is a mighty convenient excuse as well.... :o
I guess Uncle Teddy won’t let him go.
“Man I wish it was Thompson/Palin”
As much as I supported & had predicted Thompson would be the candidate, my fellow Tennessean & U.of MEM alum, ol’ Fred was beginning to look like he had had one too many Jack Daniels...LOL
2 much!
once upon a time we had a democrat governor davis who, according to john and ken on radio kfi am 640, got high from smelling new shoes in stores.
he taxeth 2 much, and the voters removed him, placing in his stead, a republican, ah-nuld.
ah-nuld held an election no one wanted to vote in, and the school union castrated ah-nuld.
now, we have a democrat ah-nuld, minus his nuts.
Hey Arnold, guess what? We don’t want you there!
Fine by me.
I have no use for Arnold and Fred is the man I would have liked to see on the top half of that ticket anyway. :-)
Arnold Schwarzenegger has presided over a bankrupt state. He has been a failure for California. Gray was an able administrator by comparison.
“Schwarzenegger is skipping the Republican National Convention”
A good start! Now if we can just get Schwarzenliberal to skip the California Republican Convention in two weeks.
IMHO, he was not even a RINO. It was a convenient title to get on the ballot. That’s where it ended.
.....Thompson, who is launching a new political action committee — FredPAC -.......
This has been the plan since May...... end run the campaign finance law with Fred Pac.
Today is the last day for donating to the McCain campaign, but Fredpac willl take all the money there is including my money contributed less than 24 hours before he resigned.
