6 things the Palin pick says about McCain (Kool Aid Time!)
Politico ^ | 8/30/08 | By JIM VANDEHEI & JOHN F. HARRIS

1. He’s desperate. Let’s stop pretending this race is as close as national polling suggests. The truth is McCain is essentially tied or trailing in every swing state that matters — and too close for comfort in several states like Indiana and Montana the GOP usually wins pretty easily in presidential races. On top of that, voters seem very inclined to elect Democrats in general this election — and very sick of the Bush years.

As a tidbit, one of my online friends told me lkast night that her 21yo college daughter told her last night that McCain is her man now that he made this pick. She was shocked because she is super liberal and she figurred she’d be all about Obama!

Here's my 2 cents on this article.

1) The Libs and the DBM have convinced themselves that if they are the center of political opinion and that if they can turn victory in Iraq to defeat they can sell the Brooklyn Bridge as well. They know that Obama’s speech on Thursday was a snoozer as was the whole DNC beginning with the Biden pick. But by putting up this arrogant act they can intimidate the pubies into their alternate universe. This kind of reminds me of a playground fight I once saw when I was a kid. The bully was in fact much smaller than the kid he had been intimidating for years. This time the kid called the bully's bluff and smacked him in the side of the head. The blow stung the bully who then turned to panicked bluster knowing that the the kid would normally back down. But in this case the kid cold cocked him right in the mush knocking the bully on his ass. We who were watching this thought that the bully got the message and would back off. But to our surprise the bully continued his bluster even though he was clearly hurt. Shouting and taunting the bigger kid the bully got what he asked for, a shot in the stomach that left the bully on the ground writhing in pain. Obama and the Dems are employing typical bullying tactics that they have used for years and are totally missing the point. McCain cold cocked them in the mush.

2) The reality is that this pick was hardly a gamble but was a safe pick for a conservative. After all McCain is a Republican and one might think he would want Republicans to vote for him! Desperation would be if he did pick Lieberman or a Tom Ridge who would deliver him some electoral votes. In fact McCain has jazzed the party faithful and firing them up for a raucous time in St. Paul. Next week promises to be a good time. Hang on to your hats.

LOL - I just finished reading that and came over here for some reality. And before I read that, I was talking to a certain elderly gentleman - the union, rustbelt, Dem kind.

He is so excited about Sarah Palin he can’t stand himself.

That lifelong Dem is voting McCain, with the reality that podium promises rarely come true; change is needed for certain issues that we face (and we do face them); but the change needs to be balanced and reasoned, not radical.

Go Sarah, go!!!

This will be a landslide for the Republicans, just as soon as Obama comes off of the teleprompter and ah...uh..umm’s his way through a debate.
The guy is a puppet.
HE has no experience at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m beginning to have suspicions about this pool stuff. Haven’t heard any poll since McCain announcement of Palin. Why? Could it be a huge boost to McCain. Could the pollsters fear we might suspect a left leaning? They sure were hot after Obama crap. Didn’t take but a few hours.

I just read that over on Yahoo. It's one of their front page highlighted stories. It's very spiteful and intentional demoralizing.

Funny, I don't remember similar pieces run about what picking the ultimate insider Joe Biden says about that candidate for Change.

Senators Obama and biden know how to run their mouths. Palin knows how to run a state. There, that’s all that needs to be said.

KoolAid is right.

The most important factor about this choice is demonstrated by this site, and scarcely mentioned in the article — an attempt to, as well as possible, reconnect conservatives with his campaign.

It worked. That alone will add several points to McCain’s numbers immediately. It will add more in the future. They hardly even honor that factor’s existence. In addition, I think they greatly overestimate the mind-numbed appeal of SnObama to Democrats and independents, and the huge number of disenchanted Dem voters.

Your analysis is far more accurate, as well as being more concise, and a whole lot easier to read!
