We are emotional beings with feelings. Are we supposed to deny that things hurt? It’s how we handle those hurts that brings forth our character. Yes, He tells us to thank Him in all things, and I do. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt though.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, but we can see throughout the Bible that He is a God of Justice and there will come a time when His justice will be poured out on the unbelievers.

I don’t think that there’s any problem at all with a native Alaskan or a native Hawaiian flirting with secessionist groups.

After all, reservations are independent nations.

I really don’t see how anyone couldn’t see the emotions involved in these states that were until recently territories of the US.

Check out Puerto Rico.

My God doesn't pour anything on anyone but blessings. Islam and some Christian heretics teach that God punishes unbelievers (infiedels).

It's what we do with our blessings that matters. Those who are merciful shall receive mercy. Those who forgive shall be forgiven. There are people who show mercy everywhere in the world. They do God's will whether they know Chirst or not.

That's a joke. They are a pale semblence of autonomous provinces at best.

Then how can people blame some American blacks for not being sufficiently patriotic but have diffreent standards for Hawaiians and Alaskans? Unlie the African Americans, who were brought here afgainst their will, Hawaii and Alaska were not forced into the Union. They chose it.

There are native Hawaiians and native Alaskans, and then there were pre-US non-native Hawaiians and Alaskans.

I’m guessing there were those that voted against statehood.

Do you think it was a 100% vote?

It's irrelevant (I am sure it was a majority). For those Alaskans/Hawaiians, native or not, who consider themselves Americans it is inappropriate, indeed immoral, to a member of, condone, or associate with anti-American parties and organizations, etc.

Clearly, we have double standards here.

You don't know all the facts either, yet you make such sweeping generalizations. Watch out for that log in your eye before you look for thorns in every one elses' eyes.

Of course it's not irrelevant. It means that there has been a continuing presence of those who did not favor statehood. That would make it natural to discuss the question "What if we weren't in the union?" and to have opinions on the subject.

Now, what is the double standard you see? Is it that some would belong to a party that would rather not be in the union?

I looked up the AIP on the web and found this at their website. Apparently, they don't believe they got to vote on statehood. I've never heard that before. It also means that secession isn't necessarily the issue.

The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:

1) Remain a Territory.
2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3) Accept Commonwealth status.
4) Become a State.

The call for this vote is in furtherance of the dream of the Alaskan Independence Party's founding father, Joe Vogler, that Alaskans achieve independence under a minimal government, fully responsive to the people, and promoting a peaceful and lawful means of resolving differences.

I believe God raised Sarah Palin for a time such as this. Otherwise we might be stuck with a socialist who has way too many unanswered questions and a not so hot agenda for our country. As Christians we need to pray for her and not be so darn judgmental.

Amen. I heard that right up until the last minute McCain really wanted to name Lieberman. That would have been a deal-killer for me and I think it would have instantly cost us the election. I definitely see God's hand at work here.

I can't wait for the speech tonight. Go Sarah!!! :)

And your support for Sarah Palin is not based on assumptions?

Of course it's based on assumptions, I barely know who she is yet. :) However, my argument was really about "any woman" who has been attacked as she has been. Number 2 in line to the Presidency is Nancy Pelosi, a mother of five. No one has ever said anything about her being unfit for that role. I think it's unfair to criticize Palin for also being a mother of five and being potentially number 1 in line.

Whatever facts are available so far (read my other posts) indicate that there is good reason to doubt her decision-making, including her membership for 2 years in the 1990's in the separatist Alaskan Independence Party. [NYT, Sep 1, 2008],

That's been debunked as the fraud that it is. Even the source for this lie has admitted it HERE .

Do I judge her? You bet! That's what democracy is all about. As a voter, that's "my job," and if I didn't judge candidates I would be an irresponsible voter.

Judging is fine, but at least have the facts. I assert that it is unfair to judge her not capable because she has a family, when NO ONE knows what the dynamics are of the support system in that family.

In the meantime, I think I will stick with critical thinking and reason as a lot more responsible approach than simply assuming that such as such is a God-sent. How do you know Obama isn't? God told you?

I never said I "KNEW" what God's plan is here. It could well be His plan that Obama be elected and that America suffer the consequences. I don't know. God never promised that He would give us only good leaders. I just noted that God has historically called many people for specific purposes which involved family sacrifice. Therefore, I thought it unfair to ASSUME that this could not be the case here, i.e. she is a terrible mother and person for running.

Her speech is in about an hour. I sort of feel invested now, so I really hope she does well. LOL! :)

“No one has ever said anything about her being unfit for that role.”

Oh, FK be serious. This is Free Republic; nobody ever said anything about Pelosi being unfit???????????????????????????? After Hitlery, no woman has been more demonized here!

“That’s been debunked as the fraud that it is [the AIP matter]. Even the source for this lie has admitted it HERE .”

The video of her publicly congratulating secessionist traitors on their “good work” hasn’t been debunked so far as I know. Did I miss something? Am I wrong to be concerned about what appears to be comforting, if not necessarily condoning, treason?

“I assert that it is unfair to judge her not capable because she has a family, when NO ONE knows what the dynamics are of the support system in that family.”

Well, it seems something has gone wrong, FK.

“It could well be His plan that Obama be elected and that America suffer the consequences.”

True...or that McCain be elected and this country continue to subsidize and support aggressive Mohammedan terrorism against Eastern Christians...and suffer the consequences of that. Like Jefferson said, I tremble for my country when I realize that God is just.
