There are native Hawaiians and native Alaskans, and then there were pre-US non-native Hawaiians and Alaskans.
I’m guessing there were those that voted against statehood.

It's irrelevant (I am sure it was a majority). For those Alaskans/Hawaiians, native or not, who consider themselves Americans it is inappropriate, indeed immoral, to a member of, condone, or associate with anti-American parties and organizations, etc.
Clearly, we have double standards here.
