Conservatives say that's not the point. They say Ms. Palin's traditional Christian roots and strong family credentials she's got five kids, including an infant will instead make inroads with the suburban "soccer mom" vote, a constituency that now favors Mr. Obama in the polls, and helped in President Bush's re-election four years ago.
"Women, particularly those with kids, are all looking for someone who can kind of have it all," said stay-at-home mom Patricia Neerman, 33, whose husband chairs the Dallas County Republican Party. "It will definitely help invigorate women who might have been apathetic or on the fence."

McCain supporters say traditional conservatives were going to vote for him regardless of his vice presidential pick. What Ms. Palin does is draw young suburban mothers to the polls, women who might otherwise have stayed home.
"If you're talking about young moms living in the suburbs who are concerned about social issues, she's a natural for that constituency," said Southern Methodist University political scientist Dennis Simon.
These women connect with Ms. Palin because she's real, supporters say from her working-class roots to her ability to juggle five kids, hockey uniforms and her duties as governor.
"You think to yourself, 'I'm too busy to go out and vote,' " said Britta Stanton, 31, a Dallas lawyer and Republican who has a 1-year-old and a baby on the way. "But this woman with five children is not too busy to serve our country. The least we can do is get out of the house and make sure we make it to the polls."

This I don't understand. Why would soccer moms worried about the future for their kids vote for Bush one election and then vote for Marxist Obama, friend of every enemy of America out there, the next. They would have to be bi-polar to think like that.
This is interesting: I excerpted.

John McCain, here is your vice president
By Nat Hentoff
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | In 2006, Sarah Palin became Alaska’s youngest and first woman governor after having earned a reputation as a determined and successful advocate of ethics reform in politics. In the primary, she defeated an incumbent Republican governor and then a former two-term Democratic governor.
During her first year in office, as reported by the Associated Press on May 10, she “distanced herself from the old guard, powerful members of the state GOP (and) stood up to the oil interests that hold great power in Alaska, and with bipartisan support in the statehouse, she won a tax increase on the oil companies’ profits.”
Last December, the mother of four children, Palin, four months pregnant, found she was going to have a child with Down syndrome, a condition characterized by moderate-to-severe mental retardation. A school friend of one of my sons had Down syndrome, and I have known functioning adults with the extra chromosomes of that syndrome.
...
Palin’s first reaction to the diagnosis was to research the facts about the condition, since “I’ve never had problems with my other pregnancies.” As a result, she and her husband, Todd, never had any doubt they would have the child.
“We’ve both been very vocal about being pro-life,” she told the Associated Press. “We understand that every innocent life has wonderful potential.”
...
Because of Palin’s reputation as a maverick, and her initial reduction of state spending (including pork-barrel spending), life-affirming Palin connects with voters and has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential running mate for John McCain.
She would be a decided asset an independent Republican governor, a woman, a defender of life against the creeping culture of death and a fresh face in national politics, described in “the Almanac of National Politics” as “an avid hunter and fisher with a killer smile who wears designer glasses and heels, and hair like modern sculpture.”
...
And her presence could highlight Obama’s extremist abortion views on whether certain lives are worth living, even a child born after a botched abortion.
It seems from my experience, alot (not all of course) of “soccer moms” are previously “cool” high school and college students who enjoy being popular. By voting for the “cool guy” (previously Obama), they affirm to themselves they are still relevant and “cool”. Now with Palin, it has just become “cool” to vote for McCain.
At least that is my take on it.
That has got to be a huge scare for the Democrats because woman are a large part of their political power base.
Palin has HUGE potential of swinging America back towards the right in a way that no man could.
Finally! something to be happy about when it comes to this election.
Prayers have been answered!
The drive by media wants you to believe that they support the marxist.
IMO, the drive-by media’s polls are worthless. The Muslim Messiah isn’t doing all that great. Even RATS don’t like his arrogant BS. Their polls are slanted and worthless.
Geez... what's her pay grade?! ;)
And now, Pelosi won't be the most powerful woman.
I’m temporarily reporting from the heart of Obamaland, the communist state of Illinois. Let me tell you. They don’t see Obama as a Marxist here. They like his speeches and public persona. He deals in generalities, but they like what he says. It sounds great. However, they don’t really know the man’s details, at least nowhere near to the extent that we FReepers do.
Why do some people support Obama? For the same reason many so-called loyal Republicans supported McCain in the primary. They simply aren’t educated about the people they vote for, and the media is complicit in this. People, a lot of people, vote based on sound bites and 5 minute TV news spots. Sad, but true.
I wish I could blame people for their ignorance about the candidates, but how much blame exist when so much of the media is co-opted by the left? For every conservative voice, there are literally tens of programs spouting the socialist line.
“Now we finally get to hear from a normal woman.”
I don’t think she’s all that “normal” to be honest. I know very few women who are overseeing a household with 5 children (one being newborn), running marathons, attending kid activities AND holding top position in a state job. Politics is all about the look presented. I’m guessing she has a couple of nannies and/or “mother’s helpers” around - either that, or her hubby is the ultimate Mr. Mom when he’s not working oil fields or racing.
Trust me, I have 4 children, I homeschool and I work from home. Most days, my work suffers terribly because children are more important. “Having it all” is an illusion.
All that being said, I love the IDEA of Mrs. Palin, but let’s be real - how much power does a veep have anyway? What has any veep ever really done for the American people besides smile & play nice with others? No, in order for me to get excited, I need to know that Johnny boy’s truly, medically on his last leg (or that the death eaters are planning to declare him medically dead and harvest his organs). If there is a grand plan in place to make Mrs. Palin become President Palin, I’m on board. But as I see it, she’s just a pawn being thrown out by a desperate GOP who may finally be realizing how very disenchanted their former base is with their choice for the Oval office.
The Dims will hate her for having that Downs Syndrome child. Indeed, Obama will probably assert that she’s being punished with a baby! What a magnificent selection by McCain. I’m proud of this ticket. And I’ll take a Governor over a community organizer any day of the week. Palin is infintely more qualified and experienced than those two party hacks on the other side.
CHICK MATE !!
“This I don’t understand. Why would soccer moms worried about the future for their kids vote for Bush one election and then vote for Marxist Obama, friend of every enemy of America out there, the next. They would have to be bi-polar to think like that.”
They voted for Bush because he was willing to protect this country from foreign threats.
The media has spent the last 8 years saying that 9/11 was just a bad dream and Bush lied. They have convinced these women that Obama loves them just like Clinton did in the 90’s
I can see how McCain would be a hard sell to women. He’s old, cranky and reminds me of an old boss that thinks he is funny but just makes most of his subordinates uncomfortable.
She’s no pawn of the GOP. Obama and Biden are the pawns of the trial lawyers who are sucking us dry. They’re front men for an entrenched agendy of failing policies. They’re not agents of change; they’re pawns of the status quo and liberal orthodoxy. Palin is anything but! And of course, there’s an element of politics in McCain’s picking her but it all redounds to the benefit of the nation. I’d prefer a sitting Governor at the helm of this country before any ersatz pharoah who’s looking to be anointed President after serving as a community organizer. She was never a career politician, more an amateur in such matters. I despise most politicians who are presented to me as saviors. It seems to me that Sarah Palin is more about finding practical solutions to problems than being politically correct. Believe me, she isn’t motivated by childish notions of doctrinal purity like Obama and Biden. She’s a true agent of change. And there isn’t an iota of phoniness in her like that tinhorn Messiah.
I agree completely.
