Yesterday,on the Jeff Katz show (WBT,Charlotte,NC m-f 3-6PM),some “right-wing” talkradio dude in Anchorage (been there-it’s incredible)called Sarah a “Socialist Conservative.”
Something about her taxing and spending and not caring that 13 year old Alaskan girls can get abortions without parental consent.
It shook me up—I need more info.

“Something about her taxing and spending and not caring that 13 year old Alaskan girls can get abortions without parental consent.”

It shook me up - I need more info.

They are complete lies, I saw an article that she did cut spending, even gave up her government paid jet, and is strongly for parental consent. There are so many articles, I don’t remember which one.

I just did a search, here are some related articles.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article4636745.ece

“Mrs Palin may have been Alaska’s Governor for a mere two years, but she is wildly popular, with an approval rating of 80 per cent. She ran in her gubernatorial campaign as a cleangovernment reformer and scourge of wasteful spending, a message that resonated strongly in a state beset by political corruption.

Since she took office in 2006 as Alaska’s youngest governor, and the first woman to hold the post, she has delivered on many of her campaign promises. She took a pay cut, dispensed with the gubernatorial jet, and killed the infamous “Bridge to Nowhere” project that had become a nationwide symbol of the wasteful spending that Mr McCain has made a cornerstone of his campaign. “As Governor I’ve stood up to politics as usual,” Mrs Palin said. “I’ve stopped wasteful spending, cut taxes, and put the people first.”

Sarah Palin Develops Strong Pro-Life Record on Abortion as Alaska Governor

http://www.lifenews.com/state3460.html

As the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin hasn’t had many opportunities to address the issue of abortion, but she has promoted a pro-life position when given the opportunity. Palin has appeared to have an attitude focusing on getting pro-life measures approved but making sure they’re done right.

The Alaska legislature approved a parental consent bill to help parents know when their minor children are considering an abortion and to give them the ability to veto the abortion.

The Alaska Supreme Court eventually declared unconstitutional on a 3-2 vote.

Palin called the high court’s ruling “outrageous” and asked Attorney General Talis Colberg to file legal papers asking for a re-hearing.

“She feels parental consent is reasonable because it is required in nearly every aspect of a child’s life. It’s a parent’s right and responsibility to be involved in their child’s life,” spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said at the time.

Since the decision, Governor Palin appointed Daniel Winfree of Fairbanks to replace one of the judges who sided with the majority in overturning the consent statute.

That earned her praise from Alaska Right to Life, the state’s leading pro-life group.

Alot of the old repubs up here, hate Palin; so you will hear bad things from them. Main thing is she has the support of the people; don't matter if the politicals hate her. Heck, she came after them over all the corruption.

LIke I said, Palin does the right thing, over and over and over. Alot of our repubs up here don't like it.

Here's an example. Around 15-20 years back, the repub legislature bankrupted the state employees retirement system. They claimed the stock markets incredible rise would never stop, so they didn't have to contribute as much. Well, now, the fund is like 7 billion in the hole and every year, the school districts have to pay half their budget for retirements. Going broke. Now the repubs who wanted to spend the money in other ways than what it was supposed to be for; don't like to remember why the fund is broke. If truth ever comes to light, the repubs will be blamed and go down in flames. The repubs did have an accounting firm give the results they wanted to find to cover it up. Well, when oil went thru the roof, state flush with money, the legislators wanted to spend it all in their own pockets. Palin said, hold on here Chester, we better get the retirement fund solvent again; because she knew it would damage the repub party in the end when it hit the fan. Once again Palin does the right thing rather than what our repub & dem legilators wanted to do.

She has integrity but her decisions don't always sit well with the repubs up here who have had their way at the money for so long. What a breath of fresh air; she's for real.

On the big issues, she very conservative; on the smaller issues, she often throws her weight behind the people, not the oil companys; why she has such a high approval rating. Her husband, once was a member of AIP and I always heard that she was once registered dem when she was young; that gives her the balanced logic a sucessful politician needs to survive. One thing for sure, she's tough as nails and you all will see that in the debates.
