McCain has thrown the election. It is clear now with his choice for Vice President that he has no desire to win in November. Why else would he chose an inexperienced woman, whose only apparent qualification is that she won a beauty pageant in the 1980s? Why else would he refuse to say Barack Hussein Obamas middle name? Why else would he run an ad praising Obama and congratulating him for winning the nomination?
If McCain had chosen Mitt Romney, a man with real leadership ability, real charisma, and real experience, he might have stood a chance. He could have made up for his lack of energy in confronting his opponent, his useless pandering to liberals, and his refusal to expose Obamas leftism and inexperience. Instead he trumped inexperience with more inexperience. Obama, for all his far-left socialism, picked a running mate who is perceived as giving the ticket more experience. McCain, in defiance of all logic, undermined his strong suit by selecting a political neophyte who waters down his key advantage over Obama.
Of course, I can hear the calls already. Mike, you should give her a chance, shes a real conservative. Mike, hes just doing this because he knows he has to pander to win. Mike, isnt it great that he picked a woman. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Picking someone because of their sex instead of their ability is the same kind of affirmative action insanity that the Democrats have shoved down our throats. We dont want a panderer, we want a president. If he had chosen a woman who was a real nationalist with a real resume, I would have said, Right on, John. But McCain has dropped the ball, thrown in the towel, and raised the white flag. And a generation of Americans will pay for his

A Rasmussen deficit of three points after the Dem travesty and right before the GOP convention (dead heat when you factor in Bradley)? Doesn’t appear to me he’s throwing anything.
You are right. It started.
I wish I had a buck for every poster who said FR was on its deathbed.
You are just another in a long line of not-so-illustrious posters who have stated such.
You are right, things are morphing leftward AND QUICKLY.
Soon no criticism of Senator McCain and his patently liberal Senate voting record will be allowed. Only politically correct, centrist, RINO moderate talk will be allowed here as a GOP flag waving cheerleader forum. It is losing its soul.
How can we go on to discuss issues in depth and assert conservative views, when the standard bearer so many now worship here is opposed to those views and is over on the Democrat side! Ludicrous. Talk about "mission creep."
The total Castration and Rinofication of Free Republic, Summer-Fall, 2008.
What is your prediction of what might occur here at FR, say next summer, if President McCain pushes for a big Amnesty program?
Or, a Global Warming treaty or cap-and-trade program?
Or a GM Bailout?
Will freepers be openly fighting against it or will they be silenced by the thought police (as they are now, pre-election)?
As a point of reference, there might in fact, upon reflection, be phoenix type characteristics about FR, for sure once Scarface is totally crushed by Jug Ears in the election, we will have no choice but to go back to being the vanguard of Conservatism—opposing PC, government largesse, socialism and open borders, rather than a bought off mouthpiece for RINOs. I see your point. Well taken, dirtboy.
What?
No “Pray for President Obama” threads?
So, we only pray for the President if we agree with him, right?
Hmmmm....
“So basically Sarah will be standing up to him 24x7x365? ;) “
What about leap years?
Now, examine Sarah Palin. She walks the walk on pro-life. She can shoot an M-16 on 3-round auto and control the weapon. She hunts and fishes. She has fought corruption in the GOP and won.
Maybe McCain has done us a favor. He could have gone with the same old nonsense. Instead, he picked the one true commited reformer against sloth and corruption that I have seen (with the possible exception of Jindal, for whom the jury is still out). So tell me again how this is bad. Maybe, just maybe, Palin will inspire a thousand points of light of her own - a thousand citizens who are moms and working stiffs, who are sick of corruption and who don't know how to fight it. Palin has shown how. Do YOU have the guts to back her? This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change politics.
And now we hear from the savage weiner, oh joy, oh rapture, oh give it a rest you pompous gasbag.
FOAD mikey, you’re a hack has-been who never was.
Now, tell me. Aren't you sick of corruption? The kind of corruption that is legal? That puts a couple million dollars in the pockets of career politicians at the cost to taxpayers of billions?
Can you look at Sarah Palin's political path and not cheer what she has done? Do you not think that what Sarah Palin has done in Alaska needs to be done in DC?
Do you think two corrupt Dem Senate hacks like Obama and Biden will change jack?
Do you think that McCain might just have handed the baton in 2012 to the emerging reformers in the GOP instead of the entitled hacks like Libby Dole and KBH?
I will be honest and forthright. I will NOT be voting for, in the words of FR's founder Jim Robinson "that traitorous bastard" John McCain this year.

Maybe, just maybe, McCain has given us the future of the GOP. Reformers such as Palin and Jindal. You know my posting history. I never thought I could vote for McCain, let alone work a phone bank and drive my car for a GOTV effort. But this week, I will volunteer for his campaign. Not for him. But for the opening he has given the new conservative movement. Government is broken and corrupt. Bush vetoed the farm bill and Pubbies joined Democrats in overriding it. Palin killed the Bridge to Nowhere. Sold the governor's jet and flies coach. Took on corrupt pubbies and won.
I am not supporting McCain. I am supporting the one shot I see to take back our country. I have no idea if Palin can pull that off. But I have seen nothing else that even begins to offer that opportunity.
All we can hope for is.... in that case....well, cannot say it openly here, but it has something to do with slipping on a bar of soap on a shower floor. Good look.
I have no doubts that you will fight him when he is wrong. I was wondering what you thought FR would be like.
As to Palin, I like what I see. I posted my thoughts just a few posts back on this thread.

I am encouraged by her fight against corruption and will always stand by those who do the same. But, I believe the Global Warming cap-and-trade scam is the ultimate corruption and whether she will be able (or willing) to stop that juggernaut is questionable. Only loud and vocal opposition from multiple fronts will accomplish that, IMO.
And NO, of course, I don’t think Obama and Biden will do anything better, or positive for that matter. The question was whether pubbies will oppose an (R) administration if they introduce the same liberal policies promoted by Obama/Biden.
Is that Savage?
I’ve never seen a pic of him (only listened to him once and couldn’t stand his screaming).
FR, IMO, will allow honest debate over McCain's positions. Will fight him when he is wrong with conservatism.
And we will attack with bared fangs those who seek to trash Sarah Palin with false rumors...
Yep.
No word on whether he’s heading over to Market Street.
I admire capitalists. I despite so-called capitalists who demand government subsidies and the politicians who pander to them for their own benefit. Palin understands that difference.
