Sen. John McCains surprise choice of running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, has a positive association with general aviation.
Considering that GA is the primary form of long-distance transportation in the forty-ninth state, its not surprising that Gov. Palin has taken a stand on the user fee issue. In May 2007, she signed a resolution in opposition to the FAAs plan to increase avgas taxes, impose user fees, and slash airport funding. AOPA and the Alaska Airmens Association had worked together to move the resolution through the Alaska legislature.
There is a family connection as well. Palins husband, Todd, is an AOPA member and Super Cub owner.
But neither presidential campaign has yet published a position on general aviation issues. So, AOPA has sent each candidate a questionnaire. Responses from Sens. McCain and Obama about FAA funding, air traffic control, GA security, the environment, and their personal experiences with GA will be published in the November issue of AOPA Pilot. (Dont worry, the magazine will be in your mailbox weeks before you cast your ballot.)
AOPA doesnt endorse presidential candidates, but we do give you as much information as possible so that you can weigh the candidates stands on general aviation with the other issues that are important to you, said AOPA President Phil Boyer.
A HA! She and hubby are connected to Bush(planes).
They may have more than one plane. I’ve seen photos of her with a 172 on floats.
And Dick Cheney supplies the oil, The Daily Kos will be all over it now our cover is blown!
But onto other things.
Sarah is Hebrew for "Princess".
Her maiden name was "Heath", which is "Person living on a heath or near heather" also, "untended land where certain flowering shrubs grow"
So is she "The Princess from an outer land" ????
Interesting.
Any Genelogy or name origin Freeper's out their, please chime in!
Yeah, thats something ya never see in Alaska.
He has a ‘58 PA-18-150.
Good Taste, very Alaskan, very sensible.. But If I was sleepin with the Gov’ I would be cruising around in a DHC-2 painted like a big Alaskan Flag. He’s a better man than I :)
As I’m sure you are aware, anyone who has had pilot training has skills in crisis management. What management experience of any kind does Obama have?
He’s good with fainting women.
Ahhhh,
As a current pilot with a plane in my own hanger I think I’ve finally found someone to support.
I wouldn’t hire Obamma Lamma Ding Dong to clean my toilet.
Biden is a fool who is in love with himself.
McCain is an amnesty loving RINO.
But Mrs. Palin? I can finally support one of the four.
He is a pilot and I would guess she can fly some with stick time.
But this handling a crisis changes you. You learn to do it without fear and turn it into a positive outcome. I do not see anything in Obama remotely related to this. I would bet you local EMT's, Fire and Police have more calm under fire than him.
hahahah
there goes one by my window right now.
Piper Palin bump from former PA 22/108 owner.
I want Jimmy Buffett’s tricked-out Grumman Goose.
I like her more & more. What a homerun pick by McCain.
I cut my teeth on the PA-28/44. Great aircraft! Another fine reason to take this ticket to the bank.
GA ping.
But something bigger is afoot....
For the 1st time today I am seeing Sen McCain in a new light.
He has put the he future of the GOP and the Country in the hands of a Reaganesque protege potentially 4 years out. Again he is putting Country before self. I am I off the mark here, or have I touched upon his true patriotism?
I am I off the mark here, or have I touched upon his true patriotism?
***I think Patriotism is on McCain’s list, but not as high as you indicate. And patriotism is very low on Obambi’s list. I don’t think it was patriotism that drove his decision, it was a political calculation and a good one at that. Your tagline indicates Fred would have been the right answer for you, but then it would be 2 old white guys against Obama bin Biden and the dems would have had the upper hand. So McCain levels the playing field (+ some Hillary supporters) and steals the convention bounce in one move.
So far she hunts, shoots, rides, flies, supports the troops, tackles corruption in the Republican party; Hell, why isn’t SHE the Presidential nominee??!!
As a pilot and an aerospace engineer we can’t seem to find politicians with the backbone to support commercial and general aviation.
